Eddie was getting antsy. The plane from the base to LAX felt like it took fifteen years instead of fifteen hours. They had finally landed and he was itching to get off of the plane and see his boys. He knew Evan and Christopher were waiting for him. It had been way too long without seeing them, holding them close. And today was finally the day he could do that again.
It wasn't just going to be today though. He was going to be home for two whole weeks. He had talked to Bobby about approving Evan's time off for his leave. Before Evan had put the request in, Eddie had written to Bobby telling him when he was going to be home and had, basically, begged him to let Evan have the entire time off. Bobby had told him that it wouldn't be a problem. He knew that if Eddie was home, Evan would not be focused at work anyway. Plus he really wanted to give them time together. He had told Eddie about the talks that he and Evan would have when Evan was having a hard time missing Eddie. Eddie couldn't thank him enough for all he had done for his boyfriend.
After finally making his way off the plane, he rushed through his gate. He made his way to baggage claim, trying his best to control himself. Coming down the escalator, he finally spotted them. Evan was sitting on a bench against the wall, Chris sitting on his lap. Eddie felt his heart in his throat as tears started forming in his eyes. He was home. Evan finally looked up and noticed him, the smile Eddie loved so much spreading across his face. Evan got Christopher's attention, pointing over at Eddie.
"Dada," he heard Chris laugh, reaching out and trying to get to Eddie.
Eddie's heart soared. He took off running towards them, crashing into Evan's open arms. His arms wrapped around Evan's waist pulling him as close as possible. Evan's head fell against his shoulder and he could feel his boyfriend's body shaking as he sobbed.
"I'm home, my love. I'm home," he whispered, pulling back to wipe the tears from Evan's cheeks.
"I missed you so much," Evan whispered, pulling Eddie in for a kiss. Eddie felt like his feet were lifted off the floor. He didn't think a kiss could make him feel such a sense of bliss, of love, of relief. But kissing Evan for the first time in six months was euphoric.
"I missed you too," he said, pulling away from the kiss.
He felt Chris start to tug at his uniform. Looking at his son made Eddie want to start crying again. The little two-month-old he left when he deployed wasn't who Evan was holding now. He'd grown up.
"He's so big now," he whispered, tears falling from his eyes. His son was growing up and it hurt his heart that he hadn't been there to see it. Evan placed Chris in his arms and Eddie hugged him close to his chest.
"You missed dada didn't you superman?" Evan smiled, his hand resting on Eddie's shoulder.
"Dadadada," Chris babbled against Eddie's chest. Eddie just laughed and held him closer.
"Let's get dada home," Evan said, picking up Eddie's bag and leading them out to the truck.
"You didn't drive the Jeep?"
"I drove the truck when I missed you.," Evan explained, blush forming on his cheeks. Eddie felt his stomach flip seeing it in person again, that blush that drove him crazy since day one. And the fact that Evan drove his truck when he missed him. God, he loved this man.
"Plus I thought you'd like to see that I could actually take care of it while you were gone," Evan teased.
"You're real funny, baby," Eddie teased back.
He got Chris strapped into his car seat before climbing into the passenger's seat. He immediately grabbed Evan's hand.
"Take me home, baby," he smiled. Evan nodded, bringing Eddie's hand up to kiss it before pulling out of the parking lot.
