The last few weeks had been a whirlwind for Evan to say the least. Having Eddie home made him happier than he ever thought that it would. It was nice to wake up next to him again, make breakfast for his boys, be able to go out and spend the day with them. He missed it, and having it back was so special to him. He spent the entire time glued to Eddie's side, not that Eddie complained. They didn't want to spend any large amounts of time away from each other.

On one of the last nights of Eddie's leave, they were cuddled on the couch after having put Chris to bed. It was how they spent most of their nights, Evan's head on Eddie's chest and Eddie's fingers running through Evan's hair while some movie played on the TV. They never paid much attention to what they watched, too enthralled by each other.

"Let's get married," Eddie whispered after they had sat in silence for a while. Evan lifted his head a little to look at him.

"You already proposed, Eds," Evan teased, holding up his ring. "We are getting married."

"No. I mean tomorrow. Let's get married tomorrow."

"You want to get married tomorrow?" Evan sat up, eyes wide in disbelief.

"I don't want to spend another minute not being married to you. You're my best friend, the most important person in my life apart from our son. I'm done waiting. I want you to be my husband."

Evan felt his heart tug in his chest, a smile forming on his face. He knew Eddie loved him, but hearing it always got to him. Eddie had a way with words whether written or spoken.

"Then let's get married tomorrow," he smiled, taking Eddie's hand. "I can't wait to be your husband."

That's how they ended up at the courthouse on a Thursday morning. Chris, Abuela, Pepa, and Carla all came to witness as they officially became husbands. While he would have enjoyed a big traditional wedding, nothing they had ever done in their relationship was traditional. It was kind of a perfect fit for them. They had discussed what they would do for their last name the entire night before, going back and forth on what they wanted before finally landing on hyphenating their last names. Buckley-Diaz. They ended up not legally changing last names right now. They thought it would be easier to wait until Eddie was home for good.

They all celebrated at home, it being the first time Eddie's family had seen him since he had gotten home. They talked for hours about Eddie's tour and his crew. Pepa bragged about Evan as much as she could, telling Eddie that he got lucky. Eddie took Evan's hand and kissed the silver band that now sat on his ring finger, telling his aunt that he knew he was and that he would never be letting Evan go.

Soon the great times had to come to an end though. Two weeks wasn't even remotely enough for them. Standing in the airport lobby again, with Eddie in his uniform and heading out for another six months, made Evan's chest physically hurt. Saying goodbye the first time was bad enough.

Evan was trying his best to hold it together until Eddie was out of sight. He didn't want to make this any harder on his husband than it already was. He was doing really well until Christopher broke down. Their son was full-on sobbing, reaching for his dad. He had been so happy that Eddie was home, wanting him by his side all the time. Eddie took Chris in his arms one last time, bouncing him in his arms to try and calm him down while trying to hold back his own tears. Evan's heart broke as he watched the two of them say their goodbyes. Seeing his boys hurting like this was too much. The tears fell as he wrapped his arms around them.

"I love you both so much. This time will pass in no time I promise. I will call as soon as I get back on base, ok?"

"I love you, Eds. Be safe and come home to us," Evan said, kissing Eddie one last time. With that, Eddie kissed Chris on the head, grabbed his bag, and headed towards security. Christopher was still sobbing, calling out to his dad as he walked out of sight. Evan tried his best to calm his son down, but it was no use. They were both a wreck. They walked back out to the truck and headed back home.
