Welcome back to TEH! It's been quite the busy few months for me since the last chapter, but I've worked hard to finally make a triumphant return with this really large chapter containing a LOT of references to previous chapters and actually advancing the present plot; it makes it almost seem like a finale! And, hey, when I say "really large", I mean it; as you'll see, the entire chapter is over 17K words long, so I split it into 3 separate parts for your convenience. Have fun reading!
"Come on, guys! We're going to be late!" A voice booms from an Umbreon running on a paved road. The various buildings of Veesville, accompanied by street lanterns, pass by him as he continues speed walking.
"Very funny for you to say, Buster." An Espeon follows him, trying not to trip on her long, lavender gown while she carries a large basket filled with freshly made berry sandwiches. "You were sleeping just an hour before we left."
Buster turns and winks, glowing his yellow rings to clearly display his neatly put-on red bowtie and black tux. "But I got ready quickly, didn't I, Destiny?"
"Yeah, at least Dad's better than some mon..." A Jolteon with a suit and more of a scarlet red bowtie groans, tilting his head toward a Sylveon wearing a sparkly, pink, ball gown.
"Hey! I have to look absolutely exquisite for this dance!" Pinky asserts as the strong fragrance of her perfume wafts through the air. She smirks. "And smell, too."
"No need to be so flashy, bestie." A Vaporeon wearing a comparatively average light blue frock chuckles. "It's just a community night. Not an Eternian gala."
"Ooh, I want to know what an Eternian gala is like!" An Eevee wearing a heart hair clip and a cream-colored sweater enthuses. As she runs up to her sister Rainie, the Eevee's brown suspender skirt flows above her striped socks.
"Trust me, Emily, they're really boring." Asher, a Shiny Eevee, accompanies her, him also wearing a black tux like the other boys, plus a bright orange bowtie. Man, it had been a long time since he dressed so formally, though.
Behind them, a Leafeon wearing a classy white floral dress and an eponymous lily matches their pace. She eyes with concern a certain Flareon with a black suit and a yellow bowtie, who had been lagging behind.
"Sunny, are you going to be alright?" Lily asks him.
Sunny, holding a large cake in his paws as he stumbles forward, reassures her: "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just tell Mom to wait u–wah!"
"Sunny!"
He trips over a rock, almost smashing the cake into the ground. Luckily, before he fell, Destiny heard his and Lily's scream. Just in time, she used Psychic to stop his motion, levitating him and the cake.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay, honey?" She slowly places him back on the ground, keeping the cake floating in the air while realizing something: "Wait, why didn't I think of just carrying our stuff with Psychic in the first place? Oh, I'm sorry for that, darling."
She telepathically lifts the cake and her basket of sandwiches in front of her.
"I-it's fine, Mom." Sunny blushes, scratching his head and looking down in embarrassment. "You can always do things better anyways...heh heh..."
Asher remarks, "Don't worry, Sunny. I hate rocks too."
Eventually, they all arrive at the entrance of Veesville Park: a large, black-fenced gate with a wooden sign arched on top of it. In the front stood a familiar-looking Glaceon with a blank expression, a navy blue dress uniform, and a golden Protector badge emblazoned with a blue D.
"Well well, if it isn't our Deputy." Buster smiles.
"Hm, looks like you all finally have arrived." The Glaceon stoically says.
