It Gets Better

"Jade stop moving." I put my knees on her hands to prevent her from trying to stop me. I finished putting her hair into pigtails and stood back to admire my masterpiece. I laughed with my friends and their partners new hair do's.

It's been two weeks since Jade and I started dating. Ever since then she's been encouraging to me to make amends with everybody I cut off years ago. Since then I've gained many new-old friends and life didn't feel as lonely.

Jade tried to take the scrunchies out her hair, which was funny sight to see a masculine lesbian trying to take her hair out of a girlie hairstyle. I roll my eyes walking behind her to take them out for her, "Here, I'm gonna go use the restroom real quick." I say handing the hair ties to her.

I was washing my hands when Shelby walked out a bathroom stall. She started to walk over to me, turning on the faucet to wash her hands, "Hi Salem, I'm really glad you reached out to me, I do want to hang out, when you ghosted everyone I felt bad that I didn't check up on you. I just couldn't bring myself to ask why. I even heard rumors that Makayla did something to you but I was just scared. I hope we can get back to the place we used to be in." She finished washing her hands and wiped it on her shirt before walking out the door. Leaving me to wallow in my thoughts. I was happy that I rekindled my friendships, truth be told I was deeply lonely only and I was tired of being a floater in people's friend groups out of pity. My phone wasn't dry anymore and I finally had a support group I was happy.

I walked over to my girlfriend who was engaged in a conversation with a group of people, in every instance I would have put on my headphones and waited for the class to end but now I can fully talk to people without feel so anxious. I loop my arm with Jade as I joined in with her.

Jade might be the best thing that happened to me.
