Ethan stood outside Headmistress Whitlock's office, the two hooded figures securely bound by magical restraints. His mind raced with questions as he prepared to confront the suspects. Whoever they were, they held the key to unraveling the dark mystery shrouding Ilvermorny.
Headmistress Whitlock opened the door, her expression one of grim determination. "Bring them in, Auror Thorne."
Inside the office, Professor Selene Winters, Aurors Marcus Kane and Lila Rivera, and Professors Gideon Blackwood and Evangeline Frost awaited. The room was tense with anticipation as Ethan led the captives to the center.
Whitlock addressed the hooded figures, her voice icy. "Reveal yourselves."
With a wave of her wand, the hoods fell back, revealing two students: Avery Morris and Clara Doyle, both from the Horned Serpent House. Their faces were pale, eyes wide with fear.
Ethan stepped forward. "Why were you meeting in secret? What are you planning?"
Avery swallowed hard. "We were... we were approached by someone. They promised us power and knowledge if we helped them. We didn't know it would come to this."
Clara nodded, her voice trembling. "They said they wanted to protect the school, but their methods... it's dark magic. They're planning something big."
Headmistress Whitlock's eyes narrowed. "Who approached you? Give us names."
Avery hesitated, then whispered, "Professor Blackwood. He's been gathering students, teaching them forbidden spells."
Gasps filled the room. Professor Blackwood's expression darkened, but he remained silent.
Whitlock turned to Blackwood, her tone accusatory. "Is this true, Gideon?"
Blackwood smirked, his demeanor shifting to one of defiance. "Ilvermorny has grown weak under your leadership, Eleanor. We seek to restore it to its former glory. The Thunderbird's disappearance is only the beginning. With the Heart of Sayre, we will make this school the most powerful in the world."
Ethan's heart pounded. The secret society was real, and its leader stood before them. "Where is the Heart of Sayre?"
Blackwood laughed. "You'll never find it. The storm is coming, Auror Thorne. And when it does, you'll wish you had joined us."
Whitlock raised her wand, her face resolute. "Take him to the dungeons. He'll answer for his crimes."
As Blackwood was led away, Ethan felt a mix of relief and dread. They had uncovered a significant piece of the puzzle, but the threat was far from over. The storm Blackwood spoke of loomed on the horizon, and Ethan knew they needed to act swiftly to protect Ilvermorny.
Ethan, Marcus, and Lila reconvened in the Aurors' quarters. Marcus broke the silence. "We need to find the Heart of Sayre before Blackwood's followers do. Any ideas where to start?"
Ethan nodded. "Lyra's journal mentioned hidden chambers and secret passages. We need to explore every inch of this castle. The Heart is here, somewhere."
Lila spoke up. "We should also keep an eye on the students. Blackwood's influence might run deeper than we realize."
The team agreed and set off on their mission. Ethan's first stop was the library, where he searched for clues in the ancient tomes. Hours passed as he pored over texts, his determination unwavering.
Late into the night, Ethan found a reference to a hidden chamber beneath the Thunderbird sanctuary. It was protected by powerful wards, accessible only by those deemed worthy by Isolt Sayre herself.
Ethan gathered his team. "We need to go to the Thunderbird sanctuary. I think I've found the entrance to the Heart's hiding place."
As they made their way to the sanctuary, Ethan couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. The storm was gathering, and they were running out of time.
At the sanctuary, they found the hidden entrance marked by ancient runes. Ethan took a deep breath and began the incantation to unlock the wards. The air crackled with magic as the runes glowed, revealing a passageway leading into darkness.
Ethan turned to his team. "Stay alert. We don't know what's down there."
They descended into the passage, the weight of their mission pressing on their shoulders. The path ahead was fraught with danger, but Ethan was resolved. For his sister, for Ilvermorny, and for the future of the magical world, he would face whatever came next.
The storm was coming, but so was the light of truth.
