The Golden Key

Chapter 6

"Yeah yeah I will be right there." My dad spoke into the phone as I quietly ate my breakfast, listening to his conversation. All I put together is that he needs to get to work and prepare for the meeting, which is in 1 hour. "I got to go, do you need a ride to the meeting?" My dad asked putting a few things into his brief case. I was about to answer when I saw him put in a yellow envelope it was different than all the other papers and folders in there. Something told me it was important. "nah I'm good, I can walk." I said shrugging off the yellow paper. "okay see you soon." My dad said kissing my forehead and leaving out the door.

I got up quickly and placed my plate into the sink. I needed to finish getting ready. I brushed my teeth again since I just finish breakfast. I lightly curled my hair. I quickly put on a pink skirt and a black crop top, with some heels booties. I packed an extra change of clothes in my bag and I was rushing my bedroom door, quickly reaching for my wallet house keys and phone shoving them in my bag.

I was walking down the block breathing in the air that the forests trees gave off. Its always so refreshing. BEEEP BEEP. A loud at horn from behind me cut of my relaxation. I turned as saw River and Liana in the front seats. River in the driver seat and Liana in the passenger seat. "Need a ride?" Liana asked screaming out the window. "Sure why not." I answered climbing into the back seat of the red Mini Cooper. "We are picking up Zander." River said both hands on the wheel looking at me through the rear view mirror. "okay, listen I don't see why you guys have this theory of Zander and I dating." I let out with a confused look in my face. "Because we know you like him." Liana spoke turning around towards me. I tried to hide my blush. Did I like Zander? No I couldn't we are best friends that's all. I convinced myself that we were best friends and nothing more. "See your blushing, lucky for you we know he likes you too." River added pulling up to Zander's house honking. "Really?" I asked shocked. "really." Liana confirmed. I looked down somehow finding my shoes very interesting. Zander and I can't be anything more than friends. "Hey." I heard his voice as he hopped into the car. I lightly smiled up at him then quickly moved my stare. "So, your dad called me." Zander spoke up. "why would my dad be calling you?" I questioned "because he saw me leaving from the woods this morning." Zander explained. "and what did he think you were doing?" River asked keeping her eyes glued on the road. "He thought I was with Allison." Zander's voice said I looked up to him, he was butting his lips shaking his leg. "You were though." liana brought up. "yeah but he didn't know you guys were there, he started yelling at me to stay away from you because I was dangerous." Zander said his voice got lower as he came to look at me. "I'm sorry about my dad he's just paranoid." I apologized. "he had a point though." He spoke never leaving his stare from my eyes. "What do you mean?" I asked honoring he wasn't being serious about ending our friendship. "listen there was a reason why they got me to try and convince me to break the key. They injected me with something and at times i feel like i can't control myself, I already hit my dad and destroyed my room and I was this close to hitting your dad as well, but I pulled myself together." Zander said "Its only a matter of time before I hurt one of you guys." He said taking a deep breath in. "Zander don't worry, we will figure this out, my dad probably knows what to do." I tried to calm him, by placing a hand in top of his. "That's the problem, I haven't told your dad I lied to him, he asked if they did anything to me.' Zander said hanging his head low. "and you said no." River said in a whisper almost to herself. "yeah, they threatened to hurt everyone I care about through me until I destroyed that key, I just I don't know why I can't destroy it something inside me is telling me not to." Zander admitted. "its all going to be okay, We just need to know why they want that key destroyed first before we actually do anything with it." Liana spoke rubbing her face. "okay." Zander said trying to take it all in and believe us. I can tell he was scared and confused. I wanted to make him feel better, so I held into his hand the rest of the way and he seemed to calm down and take slower breaths, that is until we got to the HQ.
