"Good morning snuggle bug!" Sunlight streams into my room as Jodie throws open the curtains. "I don't want to be awake!" I say slightly pissed off that I'm awake so early.
"Breakfast is on the table downstairs when you're dressed." Jodie replies leaving the room. She knows I won't eat it but tells me anyway, like every other day. I slowly slide out of bed not wanting her to come back up here and make me get out of bed. I do my makeup and hair and chuck on my ugly uniform ready for another day at Posh Princess High, just kidding thats not what it's called but it's what it feels like.
I start heading downstairs with my bag in hand hoping I can sneak out of the house before anyone sees me.
"Abbie!" There goes my plan. I turn around to see Grace holding her teddy. "Morning Gracey! Why aren't you dressed yet?" I asked her. "I'm getting lost in my shirt!" I let out a small laugh and went to help her get dressed. Was this going to make me late for school, maybe, did I care, no. It may have only been a 15 minute walk from my house but I could definitely make it take longer. I tried to slip downstairs quietly so I could have some time to myself before I was going to be extra late for period 1 but the chances of that happening I knew were low. I was about halfway down the stairs when I heard someone barking my name. I knew that voice all too well, fuck what did I do this time. I turned around to see my dad standing at the top of the stairs putting his tie on.
"I got another call from your school last night and I didn't get a chance to speak to you." I knew that was never good. He continued, "This behaviour has got to stop... blah blah blah" I zoned out after that because I heard this lecture all the time.
"Yeah whatever gotta go Dad." I said as I ran down the rest of the stairs and ran out the front door. I knew he wouldn't be happy with that answer but I didn't have the energy to deal with him right now. I checked my phone 8.13 perfect. As I walked out my front door instead of heading to the front gate I went towards my favourite spot, the trees in the corner of our yard. I climbed up the ladder and sat there for 5 minutes before I climbed back down and headed for my front gate. Leaving the lodge I heard the usual radio chatter meaning someone was exiting or entering and went about my day. I arrived at my favourite coffee shop at 8.23 and order my vanilla caramel latte. My phone buzzed as Halle texted me. Gonna be late again today? Yep I replied. Mooreson is gonna rip into you. She replied knowing we had English period 1. Bahha he can piss off. I replied. My name was called and I started the rest of my walk to school. I entered my classroom at 8.37. Not too bad only 12 minutes late.
"Miss Albanese nice of you to join us, with coffee of course." Mr Mooreson said as I entered the room.
"What got you up on the wrong side of bed today Sir?"
"My newborn baby now sit." He said as he pointed to my seat. The whole class had a chuckle at that one.
The rest of the day went pretty normally, except for a run in I had with the school bully Sorcha but I handled her. After school I decided to test my luck and go out with my friends. Usually I would tell my parents but decided it wouldn't matter since neither one of them would be home anyways. I met up with Halle and Sasha and we headed to our favourite spot hidden away in the nearby park. I chucked my phone on do not disturb and chucked it on the grass next to my bag while we filmed tiktoks on Sasha's phone and ate a fuck tone of lollies we didn't need. We caught up on life and before we knew it, it was 5. Halle had to be home by 5.15 and Sasha had homework to do so we said our goodbyes and I started to dawdle home. I hate being home cos it just feels so empty. Nothing there feels homey and hasn't since we moved in. Jodie tries but is busy with work and having 6 kids to look after (technically only 4 because Caleb's in the military and Nathan works full time and pretty much takes care of himself) but dad's never home and when he is we are usually having a screaming argument over something he is blowing way out of proportion. I switch my phone back on to see a million missed calls from dad and Jodie but decided to just deal with that when I got home. School stopped asking for my side of the story a long time ago and usually just talked to my parents about my behaviour at this point so I was assuming they had called them about my little run in with Sorcha earlier today. I made it to the front gate and they buzzed me in, everyone seemed on edge today but that's the security guards usual emotion. I noticed more cars in the driveway but that usually just meant Dad had come home and the motorcade hadn't moved yet. I threw open the front door and all I wanted to do was go and flop down on my bed and scroll on tiktok, but as soon as I took a step into the house I was dragged towards dad's office. Shit this can't be good.
"Abigail WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" My dad yelled.
"Jeez I just went out with my friends chill out" I replied.
"You know that I am hosting a dinner tonight and I told you to come straight home" He seethed. Shit I had definitely forgotten that one.
"Go and get dressed and be back down here in 5 minutes, the guests will be arriving soon." I stormed out of his office which I knew got my point across. It wasn't fair the twins didn't have to go to these stupid dinners and I was in no mood to entertain a whole lot of busy body politicians.
