Worst Hiding Spot Ever

AT WORK THE next day, I had left my own desk to hover around Gwen's as she started going through the employee database to find anything she could on Max.

She was just as curious as I was to find out literally anything. We had heard whispers on an accident in the genomics lab, and after the incident in Times Square last night, Gwen was certain it had something to do with Max.

Gwen was sitting in her desk chair and I was standing beside her, leaning towards the computer as she searched his name.

Dillon, Max.

At first the search bar just said something about the employee not being found, so Gwen tried to refresh it and search again, but then it came up in big red block letters.

SEARCH BLOCKED.

Gwen and I shared a look, because we knew that couldn't mean anything good.

Just moments later I glanced over to the side to see the building's security talking and getting pointed in our direction.

I tapped Gwen's shoulder and she looked over too.

When one of the security guys started walking over, Gwen logged out of her computer and started walking away. So I followed, obviously.

"Hey! Miss Stacy!" They called after us. "Miss L/N!"

When I heard my name, I sped up a little. I guessed they noticed I was searching with Gwen.

We walked down a hallway and when I turned to look back, I stumbled and almost fell to the ground.

Key word: Almost.

Peter had caught me before I could fall over.

"Hi." I smiled at him.

"Hi."

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, glancing to Gwen as she turned another corner.

"What are you doing here?"

I grabbed onto Peter's hand and pulled him into a nearby closet. I held a finger to my lips, signaling him to be quiet, and looked out the grates of the door at the hallway.

"She's not here. Neither of them are." One of the security guards said. "Check another floor."

"Got it."

"Yes, sir!"

Peter turned his head to look at me and I smiled.

"You're in trouble." He stated.

"Well, no, it's mostly Gwen. But yeah."
