Chapter Nineteen: Ermac Learns the Hard Truth

I sat with my servants in the dining hall, laughing and talking about our time with Zeix. Ermac came in.

"Oh, Ermac! Come on in and sit! We were just talking about Zeix!" Kitana said.
"Speaking of Zeix, have any of you seen her? We found a book that we think she may like." Ermac said.
"Ermac, uh, don't you remember we told you? Zeix went home. She's not here anymore." Sheeva said.
"Oh, yeah. We remember. Well, we'll give it to her when she comes back." Ermac said.

All of our faces dropped and we all looked at each other.

"Ermac, Zeix is not coming back." I said.

Ermac looked confused.

"Why not?" He asked.

I patted the empty chair next to me. Ermac teleported into it. He looked at the book with sadness. I placed my hand on his back.

"Ermac, when- when Zeix went home, she said she couldn't come back." I said.
"Ever?" Ermac asked.
"No. Never." I said softly.
"Wh- Why not?" Ermac asked.

Quan Chi sighed.

"Well, Ermac, she got here by accident. She couldn't come back." Quan Chi said.
"But, she's gonna come back!" Ermac said.
"No, she's not." Baraka said. "She's gone." Baraka added.
"That's why we all were talking about her. We all were sharing our favorite memories with her." I said.
"Even though she was only here for five days, those were some of the best five days of my life. She was an awesome kid. Even with all of the chaos she caused." Shang Tsung said.

Ermac looked at the book.

"What's the book about?" I asked.
"It's about a man and a woman that fell in love at first sight and began to spend their lives together." Ermac said.

Shang Tsung smiled sadly.

"Kinda like you and Zee." He said.
"That's why we got it. It reminded us about how we met." Ermac said.
"It really was love at first sight with you two." Quan Chi said.
"We know. She became our cuddle buddy." Each said sadly.

I saw a tear land on the book, making my heart ache.

"She, um, left these for you." I said as I pushed a small stack of books to him. "These were her favorite books. She wanted you to have them." I added.

Ermac looked at the covers. He then took the note.

"What does it say?" Sheeva asked.
"Ermac, I know this is gonna be really really hard for you considering we just met and are freshly new cuddle buddies. But I know you can get over this. I know you're a strong person. I'm so sorry I never had a chance to say goodbye. It's one of my biggest life regrets. But do remember this. I will always, always, always adore you and love you. You were my favorite person there and I was just absolutely dying to meet you. No guy has ever made me blush as much as you made me. And I have never felt so safe in a man's arms. Your hugs are just amazing. I love you so much, Ermie. Keep your head up. I'mma miss you too. I love you, mah baybeh. Zeix." Ermac read aloud.

He sniffled and took a shaky breath.

"We hope we'll be able to find a way to contact her in the future." Ermac said.

He wiped his eyes. He sniffled again.

"Ermac, why don't you tell us some stories about her and things you love about her?" Quan Chi asked.
