He's struggling to come to terms with his past casual drug usage and is trying to atone. He and his friends first created Payne as a cover band to hang out together before becoming popular in the area and signed under his manager who hired a Lyricist to create songs with them. Payne is currently more popular than Lies & Lullabies, but their image makes them a liability.

Frontman and creator of Lies and Lullabies, he plays guitar and performs most of the song lyrics for the band. His need to be in control of the creative direction of the band polarizes him to Taylor and now Deja, though he confides heavily in Ryan about his fears. He doesn't like Payne, finding them no better than frat brothers that don't deserve to be more than the cover band they started out as, and works hard to keep his band away from the members of Payne.
