Lies and Lullabies (Rodrick Heffley x Black Fem MC!!)

Chapter 13

  The high of Peach Crush hitting the Billboard Top 10 within the hour of it launching brought a rush of inspiration making Deja spend most of her time in the studio for most of the past two weeks she came back to Miami. She has never felt so validated with all the positive reception from fans and critics alike, and the pages of her song book were almost filled up completely during the last few days in California. She decided to use most of her unreleased songs to put together her own album, stripping the Lies and Lullabies concessions she made. Rodrick's support through everything has Deja enjoying being his girlfriend in earnest, and between working and quickies, she's always gushing around him.

     Today she has a virtual meeting with Maddison. This meeting could change the course of her career forever, so she is understandably equal parts terrified and excited. She keeps her outfit basic with sweatpants and one of Rodricks oversized t-shirt. Hearing her computer ring she props up the device on the drummer's desk and takes a seat. Before answering she opens her song book to a blank page with her favorite pen.

     "Deja! How are you?" an excited Maddison asks with a bright smile, she has her usual fashion forward business attire, and her hair is slicked into a low ponytail.

     "Good, and yourself?" Deja asks politely.

     "I am doing well. So, I listened to your files, and i wanted to be the first to say, you are amazing and have a bright future ahead of you," she compliments while holding the purple flash drive in hand, "Even the owner, Leo, loves your creative direction," Maddison explains, barely able to stop herself from continuing to talk further.

     The songwriter sits up in her seat, "Really? That means so much to me."

     Maddison nods as she pulls up a document off her computer, "After listening to your songwriting and music production wanted to offer you a deal as soon as you conclude your time with your band, what do you think?"

     Deja can barely hold herself back from immediately screaming, "Yes!" then continues on in a relaxed tone and notebook, "What would be coming overlook like?"

     "Well to start, we would allow you to take the time to put a project together with the help of one of our engineers, then we will help you with your roll out, you get 75 and we get 25 on album, tour, and collab sales for the duration of your contract with us," the agent starts before she pauses to let Deja take her notes before continuing on to finish, "not to mention, you keep your royalties on all of your music regardless of your contract with us."

     "Thank you so much, this means more to me than you know," Deja writes down some notes on then flashes Maddie a warm smile, "I do have an almost finished project already, full of new songs, I can send the file over," she insists.

     There's a moment where Maddison's brown eyes look like they're going to pop out of her head with how wide they go, but she quickly relaxes her face after a moment of composure to respond, "That would be perfect, I will be in Florida soon, until then keep up the good work," Maddison says looking at the time.

     "See you," Deja waves before ending the call. 'They're seriously interested in me!! If I can prove myself producing this album, they might let me work on others sooner,' she starts to wrack her brain with the delightful possibilities until she can't help herself from getting up and dancing as Rodrick walks into his bedroom unnoticed.

     He clears his throat, causing her to stop. "You're in a good mood. What did she say?" he jumps onto his bed while signaling for her to join him.

     She happily sits on top of him to look into his brown eyes, "They want to sign me, can you believe it?" Deja answers with infectious delight.

     A bright smile fills Rodrick's face as he hugs her tighter in mutual happiness, "They would be silly not to, congratulations. This is amazing," he pulls her in for a kiss then pulls away to ask, "Are you going to tell Jun-Su you are leaving after your next album?"
