The rest of the bikes that had lined the only exit out of town had cleared, each of the bikers heading back to the compound with hollers and hoots, each of them commenting about some sort of party that would be happening soon.
Vermont sat in the passenger seat of the navy truck she had been picked up in only mere days ago, staring in the side mirror she watched as Chaos loaded the busted and scratched bike into the bed, a stack of cd's had been sitting on the middle seat of the truck as she climbed in and now a familiar rock tune filtered through the old speakers.
As the closing guitar rift echoed through the cab of the truck the steady sound of a motorbike engine rumbled from close by, alerting Vermont and Chaos of Tanks arrival.
Vermont only slightly stumbled as she got out of the truck, the cold sweat and chills of her sobering journey still getting the best of her every now and then. She watches as Tank kicks the stand of his bike, his salt and pepper hair mussed by the wind and his leather jacket thrown somewhat haphazardly on, like he was in a rush to leave his compound. The two burly bikers exchange words, Tanks eyes darting over to where Vermont leans on the bed of the truck, close enough to see but too far away to eavesdrop of the quick words that leave Chaos' mouth.
Tank nods once dismissing Chaos who drops his chin in respect for the man who gave him a family, Vermont watches Chaos who walks towards her, his cheek twitching in a barely there smile, "see you back at the compound" he tells her before he jumps into the driver's seat of the truck.
"I'm glad you stayed" Tanks says to Vermont from near his bike making her pull away from the safety of the familiar truck and closer to the older man.
"You didn't give me much of a choice" she returns, and he nods with a smile, "indeed, but I had a feeling you would run soon" she doesn't say much in return, knowing that he had outsmarted her.
She hears the gravel crunch and the tires of the navy truck pull out from where it was parked and make a U-turn back down the one-way road, heading back into town.
"Let's go get some food, Hades mentioned that you were hungry" Tanks says quietly before he straddles his bike again, she just watches and he watches her back, "you gonna just stand there kid, or hop on?" he tells her with a smile on his slightly wrinkled face, "you people got to stop calling me kid" she mumbles as she makes her way to the bike before sliding onto the back.
As the bike follows the same route that the navy truck had, Vermont thinks back to Hades, the look on his face as she left, the way he held her even as she kicked. She didn't realise that her fingers had tightened their grip on Tank's shoulders, not until his voice was carried through the wind, "you okay, kid?", she relaxes her fingers, "yeah, just thinking about Hades" she tells him honestly and he shakes his head, "don't fret about him, he'll be pacing holes in the floor as he waits for you to return" he chuckles and she quirks and eyebrow, deciding not to comment.
Before long the bike pulls up to the familiar diner and Vermonts stomach grumbles louder than any bike.
"Let's get you fed, kid".
