AS SHE STOOD ON IMILCE, Philomena made note to never complain about a long foot walk ever again.

The constant up and down and just in general, having to travel by war-elephant was by far the worst form of transportation ever invented (Philomena would like to disagree with countless historians, the Romans were in fact not advanced and just some dumb kids who thought that elephants are cool).

Anyway, thanks to the war elephants they were advancing fast, coming closer and closer to the titan's fortress with each passing minute.

What Philomena hated the most about this? The beauty of the fortress; it almost made her want to not destroy it but she quickly abandoned that+

thought.

She was now close enough to admire the pure artistry of the fortress they were instructed to destroy.

The walls were made of black marble and stretched up into the sky, touching the stormy clouds that only hung over the mountain while the rest of Marin County could enjoy a cloudless and sunny day.

Philomena's jaw literally dropped at the rare beauty of it all; however, another jerk forced her to come back to the here and now.

After Imilce and Hannibal had destroyed the gate made of mahogany wood, the elephants entered the fortress, its walls being just high enough for them to comfortably enter. They were directly followed by the rest of the legion, be it by foot or on a pegasus.

The inside of the fortress was just as beautiful as its exterior. The black marble walls were high, adorned with greek fire which gave the corridors an eerie glow, especially since along the walls stood gigantic statues of the elder titans, also made of black marble.

Philomena stood still in her position, her bow drawn and an arrow set as she waited for monsters to appear in the corridor. But her mind wasn't really there since this strange beauty that she was presented with in the titan's base, reminded her for some reason of the day her family had been killed.

That day, which was now nothing more but a blurry memory, was always floating around in her mind, but above all, it was the beauty that the destruction held.

Back then, Philomena had been mesmerized by the glinting glass shards and the red color that covered the furniture in the living room. Today the beauty of the fortress, which was built by the very monsters who had killed her family and so many others, held Philomena captive, her mind not fully here as the first archers fired their arrows and eliminated some weaker monsters.

Someone shoved Philomena roughly to the side and fired one arrow after the other.

The daughter of Cupid returned to the present and finally sent the first arrow flying, directly into the snout of a hellhound. It howled one last time and then turned into golden sand.

The feeling she got from eliminating a monster, even if it was just a minor one, was exhilarating. Philomena wanted to continue, wanted to lighten the burden of the other soldiers and above all, wanted to prove to herself and the legion that she wasn't useless; she was a daughter of Cupid, yes, but she was just as much a soldier and warrior as the rest of them.

Philomena shot one arrow after the other, either injuring the advancing monsters or killing them with one strike.

Hadn't the praetors told them that they would be fewer in number since Saturn and a great part of his army had gone off to Mount Olympus?

It certainly didn't seem like it.

They were still in the corridor leading to the main hall in which Saturn's throne stood, but it seemed as if they wouldn't be advancing anytime soon since more and more monsters poured out of several side passages and stood in their way.

Hannibal and Imilce were stomping around wildly, trying their best to kill the monsters but they also were being attacked and slashed at by their enemies. Philomena could see several wounds showing on Hannibal's skin. She didn't want to know what Imilce looked like.

The supply of arrows they had been equipped with was ceasing rapidly and soon Philomena found herself only left with one normal arrow in her quiver and the three lead tipped arrows her father had given her.

However she knew that their time hadn't come yet. She needed to be patient and wait for the right moment to use them.

With a jolt, Philomena was thrown back, Imilce reared up and unable to get a hold of anything or anyone, the brunette girl was thrown off the war elephant.

She didn't even have enough time to shout for help as she saw the floor coming closer. In the last second, Philomena somehow managed to roll off and break the fall (she would have to thank Alex for showing her that later), but it wasn't a clean roll. The brunette realized this fully as she landed on her feet, her left one giving out under the force and she could feel pain in her ankle, but really, there was no time to think about that.

Philomena stood up, just as quickly as she had fallen down from the elephant and scanned her surroundings.

They had advanced and were able to push the monsters back. In the distance she could see another gigantic gate, this time it was crafted of black marble with silver inscriptions and designs carved into the stone. This had to be the main hall, their destination.

Moving her hand over her head and to her quiver, Philomena wanted to pull out another arrow to protect herself, but her hand grasped at nothing.

'This can't be', was all that ran through Philomena's mind as she reached down deeper, still grasping at nothing.

She reached for the leather strap that held her quiver, only to realize that it was no longer there. In that moment it was as if her heart dropped right down into Tartarus.

During her fall she must have lost her quiver and the arrows inside of it, all of them. Even her father's lead-tipped ones.

That was the moment Philomena Yıldırım realized she was royally fucked.
