Into the Unknown

Part 1

Chapter 3

Arin pov

(Tiny time skippy)

I sat next to Sora on the cold metal floor of the train car, it was uncomfortable and to add to it, they had put cuffs on us. Sora probably could get us out of this situation if she really tried, after all, she's amazing at anything she does.

I turn to her. "What do you think they'll do to us?"

"Whatever it is, they'll do worse to that dragon." She said, obviously detesting the situation we had gotten ourselves into.

"Really? Are you sure?" I asked. "What could they possibly do to him?"

"The Claws of the Imperium come from Imperium, same as me, and Imperium runs solely off of dragon power," Sora sighs, "and with access to all these new lands after the merge, i'm sure they're hunting dragons everywhere now."

"But they say that dragon power is safe, plus they wouldn't hurt that dragon, he's just a baby."

"Safe for who? You saw the look in that dragon's eyes; it wanted to be free," Sora looks down at the floor, "just like I did."

There was an awkward silence

In a way we had both lost our parents, but with Sora, it had been by choice. I however, didn't have a say. Living mostly by myself for about a year was tough, but I had the help of Luna. She was a little strange, sure, but she introduced me to Sora, for that I'm forever thankful.

"So uh, Sora, I've known you for a while now, and you've always been pretty good with tech, like amazingly so, but what you did on the bridge there..."

"I have no idea."

"You turned pieces of our racer, the SA-Mark-1, into a flying mech, in midair!"

"Yeah... that was weird, right?" Sora says with uncertainty.

"Well, that would be one word for it. Other words would be amazing, impossible, defying all logic or reason!" I chuckle a little. When Sora was in one of these moods, I'd try to cheer her up, this time though, it didn't seem to work.

After some time, and more awkward silence, she speaks up.

"It was that dragon. I could feel it... awaken something in me. Some kind of power..."

"Like the Elemental Powers the ninja had, or maybe something like the strange power Luna has! Powers I've dreamed of having."

"Not everything is tied to your lost heroes, you know."

I sigh. "If I loose hope that the Ninja could come back, I loose the hope that my parents could come back. Hope is the only thing the Merge didn't take from me."

"Well, hope won't be enough anymore, we can't build a monastery form an Imperium prison."

"It's called the Monastery of Spinjitzu. But you're probably right, the dream's over isn't it; I can't rebuild a Ninja team, and you can't open your own garage."

More awkward silence, but this time, it was laced with sadness, and for the first time in a long while, hopelessness.
