Lewis stood up and the covers slipped around him, Melissa remained lying and looked at him leaning on his pillow while arguing with Toto.
When he ended the call he sighed because he knew it would make her feel worse.
-Lis- he called her that when he wanted to sweeten her.
She jumped and sat down knowing he would drop who knows what bomb on her.
-Marco won't report us-
-But?-
-He stole all your notes and sold them-
Melissa's world collapsed around her. She lay down and ran her hands through her hair.
-All?-
-Everything that was relevant- he patted her shoulder –I'm sorry-
-Are there any problems with your image?-
-No do not worry. I come out of it very well, luckily I took the journalist to bed so she's been quite generous with me- he tried to play down the situation.
Melissa hinted at a smile but there was only concern and discouragement in her eyes.
Lewis didn't know what to do or what to say. He didn't even know what to actually advise her.
He lay down next to her and gave her a hug which she passively accepted. Melissa reached over and unplugged her cell phone, held it to her ear, and waited for it to stop ringing.

-Mom?-
-Melissa I'm at work, are you okay?-
-Marco stole my work and sold it-
Silence.
-Pronto? Are you still there?-
-Yes-
-Listen Melissa, call your father. I don't have the power to help you or understand the situation. I am sorry-
Melissa said goodbye to her mother and called her father.
Lewis, who didn't understand a word of Italian, looked at her perplexed.

-Pronto?-
Melissa briefly explained the situation to her father who replied -During lunch break I'll call the lawyer, you check that you have proof that you are the legitimate owner of the writings -
Melissa got out of bed and put her cell phone back on the bedside table, took her laptop and notebook and sat next to Lewis, who still had to figure out what she was doing. Melissa crossed her ankles, keeping her knees open to hold the computer in her lap.
He caressed her thigh and smiled at her. Melissa smiled back, and Lewis thought he saw her calmer.
-What is happening?-
-I check that I still have the files, I look for evidence that proves that I am the owner of the originals. I have to prove the theft-
-We can also ask the team, do they need witnesses?-
-I don't know for sure yet but it would most likely come in handy, thanks-
Melissa was visibly more serene, she felt Lewis' support and that was enough for her. They caressed each other's hands and she refocused, turning towards the screen.
Lewis watched her fingers beat furiously on the keyboard and it amused him a little. On the one hand he enjoyed seeing her so concentrated on the other he knew it wasn't the best time to joke.
Melissa's phone rang again but a frown appeared on her face -Apparently it will be more difficult than expected - she licked her lips in annoyance and a shiver ran down her spine. Lewis got up and brought her some tea –You haven't had breakfast yet, I'll come down and bring you something to eat-
He quickly changed his trousers and put on the first sweatshirt he had found.
-Sir, did you go blank last night? We didn't hear any noise or the bed creaking- joked Bottas, his colleague and great friend.
-Good morning Valtteri- he smiled at him –yes, I went blank last night but hey at least I slept- he was trying to distract himself, so as not to think about what was happening.
-Do you bring her breakfast in bed in the hope of changing your destiny?- the two friends laughed -No, come on- he chuckled sincerely -I want to do her a favour- he smiled and brought a tray with a croissant and orange juice into the room.
Melissa was so focused that she didn't even notice that Lewis had entered the room.
-Lis, I brought you breakfast- he placed the tray on the table -get up to eat something. Going crazy in front of the screen won't automatically improve the situation, you need energy- he approached her and took the computer off her lap to place it on the bed.
She looked him in the eyes and admitted to herself that it wouldn't be the juice that would make the situation worse.
Lewis hugged her from behind and whispered in her ear -But if you want to waste some time I'm always available-
Melissa giggled genuinely, it lifted her mood and Lewis just smiled every time he heard her laugh.
Melissa had breakfast in the blink of an eye and she thanked him for taking care of her in that moment of weakness.
