Melissa had her baby bump clearly visible by now, she was about to enter her eighth month and, to be honest, she was counting the days until she gave birth. She couldn't wait to become a mother but she was starting to feel physically tired. Now that the baby was older she was better, definitely better, with no more nausea. She had mobility problems, she could no longer bend down but Lewis did his best to be able to help her despite the training and travel. Roscoe didn't leave Melissa's side even for the second and, in his own way, he cared for her.
Melissa had experienced her pregnancy somewhat alone, she no longer wanted to take planes and she couldn't handle long car journeys. Her parents were always busy with work and certainly couldn't travel all the way to Munich to visit her and help her with the pregnancy. Kelly, Max's girlfriend, had supported her psychologically but she couldn't actually help her either since she followed him around the world. She had a lot of help from the cleaning ladies and video called her friends when she could.

In the end Chiara got engaged, complete with a ring, to the red American boy... yes, him, the one from the first chapters. They had gone to live together in England and were happy. Amelie had remained in Italy, had had her affairs, and, at that particular moment, was enjoying life as a single. She had never been a girl particularly obsessed with study or work but she was finding her way.
Melissa was often spotted by paparazzi on the streets of Monte Carlo alone and with her baby bump in plain sight but, because of those shots, she found herself forced to clarify on her website that things between her and Lewis were still going well. And that was it.
Lewis had given numerous interviews in which he said he couldn't wait to return home after the season so he could be by his wife's side. He smiled with emotion visible in his eyes and had admitted a couple of times that he feared missing the birth.

In Baku, Melissa had contractions in the middle of her ninth month, which were just a false alarm. Lewis, when he found out once the race was over, panicked but luckily everyone calmed him down.
Once Melissa had felt particularly nice and had video called him telling him that three of them were waiting for him.
-You, Roscoe... Melissa!? What are you telling me?-
Melissa laughed wholeheartedly and framed a German shepherd puppy – Meet Theo!
-You scared the living hell out of me- he sighed resigned to the humor of the Italian, who he loved madly –So, do you want to tell me if it's a boy or a girl?-
-I do not know-
-how don't you know-
-I do not know-
-Didn't they tell you at the visit?-
-I didn't want to know- she smiled genuinely –I bought all the green and yellow onesies- she chuckled.
She was happy and Lewis didn't want to ruin the moment for her, he, on the other hand, was dying to know what it was.

One day, however, two weeks after that video call, Melissa had no longer responded to any messages. Lewis was in Germany at the time, he had also tried to have the others call her but nothing. He was worried but he also thought she had fallen asleep on the sofa, it was just like her. After three laps, however, Bono informed him via radio that his wife had gone into labor.
-I retire, take the car and go home-
-No, Lewis don't do it. The constructors' championship depends on this race-
-Sorry- there was a second pause due to a very sharp curve –I forgot to tell you that I'm not interested-
-You can't retreat-
-Oh no? Perfect-
Lewis swerved and hit Stroll head on, they had an epochal accident. Both were fine but the cars could no longer race. Lewis' front wheels had come off and the rear of the Canadian's car was damaged.
The Englishman got out of the car and crossed the track, also taking a $50,000 fine. All the other cars passed behind him and the whole world was wondering what was happening.
Lewis passed through the paddock and got into his car with his suit still on and from Germany he went through Italy and France to get to Monaco.

He entered the hospital and immediately asked a nurse. He changed hastily and saw Melissa half asleep with a crib next to her.
Lewis ran to stroke his wife's hair, gently woke her up and smiled at him.
-How are you?-
-I'm fine, I'm very tired- she smiled turning her head towards the crib –I want to introduce you to someone- she half closed her eyes.
Lewis looked at the little bundle of joy and put his hands over his mouth as his eyes started to water. He took the folder that was attached to the crib.
