Jake's POV

I can't get her out of my mind. She roams my dreams as I sleep and every one of my thoughts as I'm awake. No matter how hard I try, I can't stop thinking about her. Is she alright? What is she doing right now? Does she miss her family?

I've decided. Enough is enough.

I'm getting Nabi out of here.

I grab my backpack, quickly filling it up with small essentials - water bottles, small snacks, a pair of extra clothes, and all the money I have. I sling the bag over my shoulder before making my way out of my room as quietly as I can.

It's a few hours after midnight, and I'm determined to get Nabi out of here before Jay wakes up. If all goes according to plan, we'll both be far away by the time he realizes we're gone.

I unlock her door as I approach and enter quietly. She's sleeping peacefully on the bed, her breaths steady. Her long black hair is a mess, completely covering her face. I smile as I notice that she's still using the blanket and pillow I had given her.

As I move closer to her, I notice that she's curled into a ball, as if she had been trying to comfort herself. Looking down at her face, I notice dried tears on her cheeks.

She had been crying.

I stroke her cheeks softly, and all I want to do is hug and comfort her. "Nabi," I whisper. I gently shake her shoulder as I attempt to wake her up. "Nabi," I call. "Wake up, please."

Slowly, her eyes flutter open, taking in the sight of me as she begins to wake up. "Jake?" she asks, sitting up. "What are you doing here?"

"You forgot already? I promised that I'd get you out of here, didn't I? I never break promises, Nabi."

Her eyes light up, and I see hope sparkle in her eyes. "Seriously? You're actually helping me escape?"

"Of course." I smile at her. "But we've got to be quick. I want us to be as far away from here as possible by the time Jay realizes we're gone."

She nods, understanding the urgency in my tone. She stands up and looks at me, waiting for more instructions.

"Alright, let's go." I walk out of the room, Nabi following right behind me. I close the door, locking it again to make it seem like she's still in there.

"I have a car outside, we're going to take that, and I'll drive us out of here."

"Thank you," she tells me. "Thank you so much."

"You're welcome," I respond. "I'd do anything for you," I mutter under my breath. I'm not sure if she heard me, but her eyes turn to me for a split second before focusing again on the hallway we're taking.

As we reach the back door, I turn the key in the lock, my hands trembling slightly. It clicks open, and we step out into the cool night air.

I watch Nabi, and I see her visibly relax. It's been a week since she last got fresh air, and I'm sure being outside now has alleviated most of her worries.

The car is parked not too far away, hidden behind some bushy trees. I lead Nabi to it, and I slide into the driver's seat as she sits down beside me.

I turn to her, asking, "Are you ready to go?"

She nods, determined. I start the engine as quietly as possible, but the sound seems extraordinarily loud in the quiet of the night. Slowly, I move the car, and in a matter of minutes, we're far away from the home that used to contain us.

I look at Nabi and am surprised to see a wide smile spread across her face. Her eyes are lit up, nothing but pure happiness and joy in her expression.

"You're happy, aren't you?" I ask, amused.
