Nabi's POV
It's the next morning by the time I wake up. I had planned to only sleep for the next few hours, waking up sometime in the afternoon, but it seems my lack of sleep had finally caught up to me. The sheets are warm and soft, almost persuading me to stay in bed a bit longer. Yet the sunlight streaming through the curtains urges me to start my day.
I get up, letting out a deep sigh as I stretch out the stiffness in my body. The room is surprisingly quiet, and as I sit up and observe my surroundings, I notice that Jake is no longer here. I get up and search the suite, a sense of unease creeping in as I call out his name. "Jake?" My voice echoes slightly, met with only silence. The bathroom is empty, the large suite showing no signs of him. I even check the closet and under the bed, ridiculous as it seems, but Jake is nowhere to be found.
Panic bubbles inside me as my heart begins to race. Did he abandon me? I hate to think so negatively, but after all I've been through, it's hard not to assume the worst. What if he isn't coming back? What if he lured me out here only to leave me to fend for myself? My mind races, every possibility suddenly darker than the last. My mind flashes back to the dark and dreary nights that I was forced to spend alone. The fear of being alone, of being left behind, is something that still lingers at the back of my mind, a ghost I can't quite shake.
I tell myself that he probably just stepped out for a second. He's not the type of person to just leave me like this. Not after what we've gone through together.
I sit down at the couch, sighing as I stare at the wall in front of me. I just need to wait patiently. He'll be back.
After what feels like an eternity, I hear the door's lock click. I stand up quickly, my heart pounding as I expectantly watch the door open slowly. Jake steps inside, holding two packages in his hands.
"Where have you been?" I question, my voice more frantic than I intended.
He looks up at me, surprised at my sudden outburst. "I was getting us breakfast," he tells me, gesturing to the boxes in his hands. "Are you alright?" he asks, noticing my worried expression.
"Oh," I say, suddenly embarrassed. I shouldn't have allowed myself to get so worked up over this. "Sorry, I was just a bit worried when I woke up and you were gone. I thought you abandoned me..." I admit.
Jake places the boxes down, then walks over to me. Taking my hands in his, he assures me, "Nabi, after everything we've been through, do you really think I'd leave you now? I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to worry about that, not ever."
I look down at my hands in his, my heart fluttering. I shift my gaze back to him and nod in understanding, grateful for his assurance.
He gives me a soft smile, then places the boxes of food on the small dining table beside us. "Are you hungry?"
My eyes eagerly look towards the food. "Yes, I am. Thank you." He nods in response, and the both of us sit down together at the table.
As I open the small box of food, I find a generous amount of pancakes, bacon, and eggs inside. The smell alone makes my stomach growl, reminding me of how long it's been since I last ate. I glance over at Jake, about to ask a question when he cuts me off, already anticipating my concern.
"Before you ask, I didn't have to pay for it. Free breakfast comes with the hotel rooms," he explains with a small smile.
I nod, relieved that he didn't have to spend any more money on me than he already has. "Thank you," I tell him as I begin to eat my food.
