The sky was displayed in golden hues from the evening sun as we stopped our horses in front of the large building. Joseph inspected the building as I hopped off of Junior, hitching him next to River. "You sure he isn't made of jewels?" Joseph asked as he dismounted Jasper. I shook my head looking around a bit as I retrieved the posters from my satchel.
"No, but maybe soon," I said handing them to Joseph. Joseph examined each poster until he got to my poster. His brows furrowed in confusion for a moment before he looked at me. "When the hell did this get printed?" I shrugged, taking the posters back from him and placing them in my satchel again. "Since I led that damn robbery," Joseph shook his looking away a moment.
He seemed anxious, maybe second-guessing himself on something. "Somethin' wrong?" He looked back at me with the familiar guilty glint in his eyes. "No, I- uh- Shall we?" He gestured to the door. I rolled my eyes walking up to the door, a nod received from a cleaner taking care of the porch which was returned.
I knocked on the door, quickly being answered by the familiar butler. "Miss, welcome back, oh and mister Winfield?" Joseph looked at me a moment before turning his gaze back to the butler. I shook my head, quickly putting on a convincing smile. "Yes. I'm here to talk to my colleagues if Mister Miller don't mind, of course." The butler nodded before stopping a moment. "Mister Miller was planning on arranging another discussion with you soon, miss. If you don't mind could you spare him sometime before you leave?"
I looked at the butler a moment before dropping my head. I really don't need this right now, bounty hunters breathing down our necks and all. That's when I thought for a moment. Maybe I can distract Mister Miller until they get the jewels. I looked back up at the butler with a grin, receiving a curious look from Joseph. "Sure. I'd have a word with Davidson n' Woods first of course." The butler nodded stepping out the door a bit more. "They're both down watching the fields, should be just on the right here." I tipped my hat to the butler before turning on my heel with Joseph right behind me. "You sure about this?"
Joseph's voice wavered with each word as he spoke. I continued walking as I spoke. "I thought you was the one suppose' be havin' the backbone 'ere." Joseph shook his head at my words looking behind us again. "Well, our luck ain't been the same lately. You said it yourself, we got away with the money, but at what price?" I turned to him with an emotionless face looking up at him from under the brim of my hat. "This is my lead, ain't failed you yet n' I ain't plannin' on it. You listen to me n' do what you're told when I'm in charge."
My tone was stiff, unwavering, unlike anything I'd used on him ever. Joseph seemed to back off at that, only offering a nod in agreement. We made it down to the stables being greeted by the two.
"Miss," Henry said with a small bow, earning a scoff from Joseph which Henry eyed him for. "If I'd known you could act maybe I'd ask Thomas if you can play the damsel in distress, nice pretty pink dress on you and you'd fit the part."
I earned a grin from Jameson and a small chuckle from Joseph. A frown fell on Henry's face as he rolled his eyes. "Ah, don't be sour about it. I was only partially joking." Henry scowled, crossing his arms in a childish manner. "How come you two are here?" Jameson asked in his usual steel tone.
"Thomas wants us to get these jewels, tonight. Guessin' he ain't feelin' safe with all these bounty hunter activities 'round 'ere." I said. Jameson nodded looking at Henry who propped himself up properly before glaring at Jameson. "You think this will get us out of here for good?" Jameson added, keeping his gaze on me, intent on an honest answer.
I sighed, unsure if it would or wouldn't at this point. "I ain't sure, depends on if we get away with it or not." Jameson nodded lightly before Henry anxiously interrupted. "Are we gettin' this show on or not?" I looked at the manor, shrugging. "You fancy goin' in without a plan sure, be my guest." Henry scoffed. I turned my gaze back to the three men before speaking. "Henry n' Jameson, you two can enter the house with me and Joseph. You two'll go investigate the room, keep it quiet. Me n' Joseph will keep Miller occupied." Jameson and Henry nodded in agreement before Joseph protested.
