Ahri's POV
I was lazing away in Rae's den, patiently waiting for the girl to come back from her dungeon crawl. But even after doing mindless pencil rolls on her bed, grooming my fur and fluffing up my tails for the past hour, there were still no footsteps outside. I cocked my ear, gazing outside the window. The evening sun cast long shadows in the room. The beautiful sky was set ablaze with the fire of the setting sun. Dusktime-a time to play. But the real beauty wasn't lying next to me. My mate wasn't back safely in my arms yet.

Thump. Thump.

A horrible sinking feeling ravaged the pit of my stomach. Those nitwits should be back by now. So why's Rae so late today?

Did something happen?

That dreadful thought left me queasy. I hurriedly bolted out. Sneaking along the outskirts of the streets, I galloped towards the border. There I laid prone, waiting for those damn pests to appear in my sight. And when they do, I don't care what I have to do. Be it slapping them stupid or shredding them to bits, I'll have them spit out Rae for me!

They better jolly well return her to me!

After what seemed like forever, the figures of trotting horses emerged in the distance. I scanned through the crowd of distraught brats, trying to pick out the familiar silhouette of a raven-haired girl. But even after sweeping up and down, left to right, Rae was nowhere to be found. I could feel a heavy stone dropping on my soul. It sent decimating ripples. A stinging pinch in my heart was slowly suffocating me breathless.

No... Please...

The blond twerp did a cursory headcount before asking casually, "Where's Rayne?"

That twat's playing the aloof and nonchalant script. But beads of sweat betrayed his ostentatious demeanour. It's pretty obvious this coward ran home with his tail tucked between his legs. Arthur's tone was lukewarm, without a sense of urgency. There wasn't a trace of genuine anxiety in his lip service. Just like those pleasantries human royalty loved partaking in.

My claws dug harshly into the concrete pavement as seething rage continued climbing. Anger was steadily ballooning inside, right on the cusps of imploding into a messy slaughter.

Now then you realise she's missing?!

I was livid. Ears flattened back. Tails flared out, pluming around my body. I had to hold back the urge to rake my nails through that pretentious scum.

If you don't care about her, then stop acting like you do! LEAVE HER ALONE, GODDAMNIT!

I had enough! I HATE him with a bloody passion! I hate how he always treats Rae's pitiful situation as an afternoon tea break gossip. He personally didn't give a rat's ass about her. Yet constantly brought up her pain just to illustrate how 'kind' and 'sincere' a leader he was. Shameless! Fucking sickening! He doesn't feel disgusted about his compassionate facade, but I do! It honestly makes me want to hurl. All over that revolting face. How dare he belittle her pain?! Who gave him the right to trivialise her suffering?! Who gave him the gall to bully my mate???!!! Is he treating me as air-a mere peasant dare to look down on me?!

That lowlife wants to snatch what's mine?!

While I was fuming mad, Will shrugged, "Dunno. Probably died in that shithole or something."

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I felt my heart shattering.

No... Impossible...

My baby's better than them. Stronger than all of them-smarter than those imbeciles! How can she not escape when even these hairless chihuahuas could??? I know her! Rae will not kick the bucket so easily. There must be something amiss! Something's fishy with that insufferable donkey!
