Rayne's POV
Three days later.

I was going through the essentials. HP pots? Check. MP pots? Check. Sweating my butt cheeks off? Check. No floppy leather armour today since I intended on testing just how powerful my new Stealth skill was. The less restricted I am, the better.

[Effect: Stealth has activated.]

[Your appearance and aura will blend into the environment.]

[10 mana per second will be consumed throughout the duration when stealth is active.]

[Effect will be broken once user initiates any form of attacks or skills.]

At the same time, my hands faded to a pale translucent state, like that of a ghost. I could even see the mouldy floorboard beneath my feet. I clenched and opened my hands in marvel. It would've been pretty cool if not for the constant depletion of mana. Fortunately, necromancers have a high base MP. It's my second highest stat, just behind HP. And I also hoarded tons of mana pots. So all's good.

Once everything was accounted for, I left to gather at the agreed meeting spot. Shockingly, throughout the whole briefing, no one noticed my presence. As if I was collectively forgotten. The blabbering instructor didn't realise. Hell, even the paladin and dragon knight didn't react when I waved my hand in front of their faces. I guess what it meant by 'blend' was to completely erase my existence and turn me invisible.

A long horse ride later and we reached the confines of a cemetery. My hair stood on end. Unlike the capital city, this place was perpetually enshrouded in nighttime and gloom. Withered willow trees dotted the area, tombs everywhere as far as the eye could see. Visibility was low with heavy fog blanketing the vampire's territory. A red double moon hung in the sky, bathing everything in a faint reddish hue. Exactly the colour of blood. My stomach knotted, face tinted green. I felt like puking already.

Inhaling sharply, I tagged behind the group. As we scampered along, mayhem quickly broke out. The frontline was busy mowing down stray medusas, gorgons, and werewolves, slowly culling their way to the towering shadow of a castle looming ahead. Howls of anguish echoed. Cold wind blew, carrying the foul stench of rot and decay. Blood splattered everywhere.

With every inhabitant hacked down to pieces, my heart palpitated uncontrollably in delight. A stark contrast to the current queasiness ravaging the pit of my gut. It's like I'm plagued with split personality disorder or something. The ruthless part of me wants to see more carnage, but the other sane half was utterly horrified at my perversion. This was abnormal. I shouldn't feel this way-I'm not a serial killer!

Genocide just to grind for EXP? I won't! I can't. So while others continued slaughtering demons, I merely focused on the ground, avoiding the petrified gazes of the corpses at my feet. I'm fine with protecting myself in a life-and-death scenario, but to wrangle someone this humanoid... Like they're glorified cattle waiting to be farmed... If in the process of becoming a hero, I turned into this inhumane dipshit, how am I any different from my degenerate father? How does that NOT make me a murderer?

Treading on the weather-beaten walkway, the atmosphere was unusually grim and solemn. No one spoke rubbish anymore. Since everyone was secretly shitting their pants from this real-life Resident Evil gore film.

Clip-clop. Clip-clop. Clip-clop.

As luck would have it, turmoil hurled itself at our doorstep. A horrific scream shattered the ensemble of moans and groans.
