Rayne's POV
After the night when our friendship truly blossomed, Ahri had been finding me every evening. Rain or shine, a small furry head would routinely peek inside my room. Like clockwork. Subconsciously, I had also begun looking forward to our date night. Each time I sat in the dark, my attention would be glued to the windows. Eagerly waiting for two vulpine ears to poke out. Whenever the little visitor came to fetch me, a warm fuzzy feeling would surge in my chest. Knowing there's an irresistible friend I could return to and cuddle with... it makes the crappy isekai experience so much more tolerable.

My sleep quality has drastically improved too. Hugging the magical fox did wonders for my sanity. No nightmares anymore. I could finally stop seeing a certain bloody man when I closed my eyes. To think that of all people, a demon general would have this much influence over me...

Not only that, there's also subtle changes in my attitude. For one, I grew increasingly fed up with the constant oppression. Now even having the galls to use my side job as leverage. I don't know what came over me... Maybe it's Ahri's repeated affirmation that caused my ego to balloon insufferably. I'm important to the Crimson Princess. So I can't die. Not for these rubbish Mary Sues and Gary Stus. If I disappeared without warning, the little cub would surely be upset. And I can't have that.

Each time I witnessed just how ugly my classmates could get over mere EXP and loot drops, it only disgusted me. Grating my nerves to no end. How revolting. They could throw away their humanity for rocks and crafting materials??? Is this what it means to be a hero? Going batshit crazy over who gets first dibs for monster carcasses?

Every day, my heart grew a few degrees colder. Until one day, my patience just snapped without warning. It completely warped my timid personality. Turned me into a blunt outspoken bitch, constantly calling out stupidity when I see it. Which happens a lot. Not to say I suddenly went guns blazing and gave everyone a tight wake-up slap. I was still a little scared that things might backfire horribly. But at least I won't take their criticisms lying down. Especially not from someone mentally retarded!

Actually, I realised something funny about my high-flying classmates. They might be blessed with better classes. They might have better grades, but they're not necessarily smarter. This hippy goddess or whatever can't possibly grant IQ to donkeys, can she?

Those folks are what you would call people who only know how to study and take exams. They don't have a shred of common sense, much less the brains to think on their own. It's as if they've collectively lost their marbles. They don't question. Just accept whatever the knights and mages said at face value. Never using their bloody eyes to truly see the world around them. For example, most of the monster 101 passed down from generations to generations was long outdated. How do I know? By listening to the Gatekeeper they detested and scorned. She taught me how beasts have mutated to compromise for their weaknesses. Brought me to observe them in the flesh. Even giving useful tips to keep myself alive.

But you want to know what's the best part? We could actually have civilised conversations. She doesn't look down on me. Neither would my ideas get shot down from the get-go. The same can't be said for my classmates. Those arrogant prats just can't accept the fact that sometimes, the necromancer knows better. Particularly Arthur and Will. Those two egomaniacs were off the rails and into the deep end. They suddenly lost all rationality, obsessed with trying to one-up each other on the heroism scale. Sadly, I think they really saw themselves as messiahs that could do no wrong. Breathed in too much crack and cocaine. Let the 'chosen ones' rainbow farts go to their heads. So now their minds were too bloated to do any critical thinking. They've degraded into literal puppets dancing in the palms of that flabby king.
