Chapter ~ 9

"Don't worry Maa , I will talk to him."

Saying this to her mother-in-law Devika went out of her chamber and directly come back to her chamber.

Tears streamed down her eyes as she now decided to talk to Vikram about his remarriage. Ohhh how much hard this is for her to even think about it but with a heavy heart she decided to finally discuss the matter with her husband.

It was almost night time when Vikram returned to their chamber. Devika gave him his night clothes and asked him to freshen up, giving her a peck on her forehead he went towards the bathroom to freshen up.

He came back , smiled at her which she returned back to him and then invite him for the dinner. Settling besides her on the couch she served him and herself the food and both of them started to have it.

After the dinner was over and attendee took away the used dishes they both got settled on the couch. He brings her towards him and hug her closed to himself.

Devika looked at him who has his eyes closed and his back was resting on the backrest of the couch while he has her closed to himself. Gulping down her saliva Devika decided to talked to him about the matter. It is now finally the time to discuss the elephant in the room. With this thought she opened her mouth and called his name.

"Vikram."

She said to which he hummed, Devika sighed and said.

"Vikram we need to discuss this now, we can't just ignore the matter."

Hearing her words Vikram opened his eyes and looked at her. Sighing deeply he said.

"What you want to discuss Devika, if it is what I am thinking then its better if we don't."

He said stand up trying to avoid the matter again and was about to go towards the bed when Devika held his hand, he turned towards her looked at her and said.

"Devika stop! "

"Vikram you can't just ignore it."

"What you want, is not possible because that will only bring tempest in our lives. So its better that we just not talk about this."

He said to which Devika nodded her head at him and said.

"Fine, but if not this then is there any solution to this problem. As far as I know there is no other solution Vikram. You know that your natural heir is the ultimate solution of it."

Listening to her words Vikram became silent as he know that there is no other way than this.

"Devika you think its easy, what about you ? What about us ? What about the woman I will be married off to ?"

Devika looked down hearing his question, she was definitely not oblivious about all this but it involves multiple live , so she has to think rationality about all of them also.

"What about lakhs of people Vikram? What about them ?"

He looked at her knowing the weightage of her words but still adamant about his decision, he said while holding her shoulders.

"Devika it will be unfair with you and the woman I will be married off to."

He said in most possible gentle tone trying to make her understand about the situation which she knows, gulping down her saliva.

"I know you will not do any injustice with our rights Vikram, when I was married off to you and became your wife that time we took promises to stand besides each other in every situation, to share each others problems, pain, suffering not just happiness. I can't just think about me and my happiness it about you also, your years of hardwork."

Saying this she hold his hands in hers, looked at him in his eyes with her tears filled eyes and said while controlling her breaking voice.

"Vikram we can't escape the responsibility by evading it today because it will again hit us back tomorrow. I am ready to make this sacrifice for you Vikram and for the subjects."

Vikram looked at her said while shaking his head.

"But I am not ready for your this sacrifice, for me or for anyone, do you get that, you can't force me."

He said being firm on his decision, he turned away and was about to go when.

"I want you to remarry for the safety of our subjects and Kingdom Vikram, we can't run away from our responsibilities and through these words I filled your blank promise given to me."

Hearing her sentence his step halt , his eyes blazed , shock and anger filled his body which he tries to contain under his skin by clenching his hands into fist.

Whereas looking at his clenched hands Devika looked down knowing that she has disappointed him with herself today in most breaking way possible , her eyes filled with unshed tears. She don't want any bad blood between them but she can't help it now.

Not wanting to say something which he will regret later Vikram rushed out off the chamber without even looking back at her. Devika looked at his retreating back and the tears which she was holding back with a lot of self control now started to flow like a river.

"What have I just did ? I disappointed him with me, he was trying to save our relationship and I just ..... But what can I do, I can't let his name be mentioned in the history as a coward who run away from his responsibilities leaving his Kingdom to drown in pit darkness.

No! I won't be able to bear anything like this about you after all of your back breaking work, never! I know how much hardwork you have put in and I will not let it flog into the ground. And how can we live happily if millions will suffer, their crying hearts will curse us. And that cursing will not even let us be in peace even after death. And just because I can't take your right to be father away from you.

I am sorry Vikram. I am really sorry my love but I have to do this."

She said while tears were streaming down her eyes continuously, closing her eyes she looked down.

"Please don't."

Vikram directly come to his personal chamber after he storm off their chamber. Coming inside he directly went towards the balcony and fist the railing tightly trying to suppress the surging anger and disappointment not on Devika but at himself for not being able to do something about it and to solve this raising problem.

"What the hell is even happening here!."

"Damn it!"

He exclaimed and hit his right hand hardly on the railing making it bleed with the tough impact on it but this the least of his concern now.

"I won't be able to love any woman other than you as a man Devika, why the hell no one is freaking understanding this small straightforward thing. And as a wife she will also desire and deserve that but I wouldn't be able to provide it ....... damn it! "

He said closing his eyes trying to control his emotions.

"I am sorry Devika, that I put you in a situation where you have to go through all this."
