(Sophia POV)
The night the War Game ended Rimuru had sat me down. Amaterasu had gone to sleep in her room leaving just the two of us in the living room sparsely lit by a soft orange magic stone.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
Rimuru had a grave expression. "...No, it's not that something is wrong," he shook his head. "It's just...well I need your help with something," He admitted.
"Alright, what do I need to do?" He smiled a little at my answer, but shook his head.
"Before that, I have something I...want to clarify," He said slowly. "It's about my origin."
"Your...origin?" I lifted an eyebrow.
Rimuru had his secrets. Whenever I happened upon one, I tended to sidestep them for his benefit. Forcing issues when there's really no need to was not a thing I was particularly a fan of doing. I figured he'd tell me in due time if it ever became necessary that I know. He had his secrets, but he was also very soft in that way.
He nodded before continuing. "As you know, I am a monster," he said.
I nodded.
"But there was a time before that," he said. "Actually, I'm from another world. I died there and was reincarnated into this one," he said.
"Uh huh," I nodded.
"..." He stared at me silently for a moment. "Uh huh?" He tilted his head.
"Oh is that all?" I asked.
"Oh, um no there's a bit more...wait what? Huh?" He seemed thoroughly confused.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, I just figured you'd be...more surprised." he said.
"Why? I figured all of that out ages ago."
"..."
"..."
Rimuru seemingly struggled to respond for a minute. I silently took in his confused, almost frantic expression as he struggled to understand what I just said.
"Hm~" I rested my head against my fist as I watched him slowly collect himself.
"–?" he turned another confused expression my way.
"Is something wrong?" I asked again.
"Ah no...it's just that, you're smiling," He said. "That's rare."
I blinked. Placing a hand against my face I noticed he was right. "Huh. I suppose I am," I said.
"...so what's the occasion?" he tilted his head.
I touched a hand to my forehead and began to fiddle with my bangs. "I couldn't say." I sigh a little.
"Lia-"
"Shut it, you," I stop Ava before she can say anything.
"In any case there's more to your origin I ought to know about than just getting transported here you said." I moved on.
"Oh, yeah, but before that can I ask how you aren't surprised."
"...well, strictly speaking being reincarnated in and of itself isn't too surprising, keeping your memories is the tricky bit, according to Amaterasu anyway," I explained. Somehow or other the topic had come up between us and she explained it like that. "And as far as you being from another world...well that was mostly just a shot in the dark on my part. A gut feeling if you will,"
