when we got the invitation to heeseung's penthouse party, i couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. he was known for throwing the biggest, flashiest parties, and the penthouse was supposed to be massive—spanning the entire top floor of a sleek, high-rise building.
yoonji, eunjin, jake, riki, jungwon, and i all decided to go together, making it a fun outing with the whole gang. after the whole drunk karaoke fiasco, we've gotten really close.
as we arrived, the sheer size of the place took my breath away. the penthouse had panoramic views of the city, with floor-to-ceiling windows that gave us an incredible view of the skyline.
the space was filled with vibrant lights, a DJ booth blasting energetic music, and a lavish spread of food and drinks. it was everything you'd expect from a high-profile party.
the night started off well. we mingled, took in the atmosphere, and tried out the extravagant buffet.
i see yoonji chatting animatedly with jake, they both look really silly and all that, but i find it cute how they always seem to have their own world. i'm genuinely happy for them both.
while eunjin and riki were on the dance floor, showing off some impressive moves, jungwon and i were trying to make our way through the crowd to find a quieter spot, but damn it was hard.
after a while, we ended up in a cozy corner with a small seating area, away from the loud music. we were talking and laughing, but as the night went on, i started to notice a shift in the conversation.
jungwon and i had gotten into a debate about something trivial, and before I knew it, our discussion turned into a heated argument.
"i just don't understand why you can't see it from my perspective." jungwon said, his frustration evident. "i'm trying to explain that it's not just about the facts, it's about how we interpret them."
"interpret them? it's not about interpretation, jungwon." i shot back, my voice rising. "we're talking about something that's either true or false. so, if you keep bringing your feelings into it, we're never going to get anywhere."
"that's exactly my point!" jungwon exclaimed, his hands gesturing wildly. "feelings DO matter! if you're dismissing them, you're missing half the picture."
"but you're overcomplicating everything," i argued, feeling my patience wear thin. "i get that feelings are important, but sometimes we need to focus on the facts to make sense of things."
our friends noticed the tension and quickly came over, sensing that things were getting out of hand. riki threw his hands up with a playful smirk. "you two should just kiss already!"
eunjin, laughing nervously, nodded in agreement. "seriously, you both are clearly into each other. just get it over with!"
the comments made both jungwon and me stop mid-argument. we looked at each other, our faces a mix of surprise and embarrassment. the intensity of the argument faded, leaving us awkwardly standing there.
"we're not doing that." jungwon said finally, his voice softer and more hesitant. "t-this isn't the time or place."
"yeah, i agree," i replied, my cheeks flushed from embarrassment. i face jungwon, letting out a sigh. "let's just forget about anything we ever talked about and just ... move on."
our friends, seeing that we weren't going to take their advice, decided to change the subject and drag us back into the party. the night continued with a mix of laughter and dancing, and the earlier argument was pushed to the back of our minds.
