After a long day of wedding celebrations, we all returned home, exhausted. My brother, knowing that I might get emotional if left alone, asked me to stay with him and our cousins in his room. We spent the evening laughing and having a great time, and before I knew it, sleep took over.
The next day was the haldi and mehndi function, which was being held at our place. We decided to keep the haldi function simple, decorating our terrace with white and yellow flowers. Everyone was dressed in yellow and white, and my brother looked handsome in his yellow kurta. I wore a light yellow dress with a net dupatta and kept my hair on plates with light makeup.
During the haldi function, I got emotional seeing my brother getting married, and I pouted when he applied haldi on my nose. We clicked some pictures together, and then Aansh, Reha, Abhay, and Ridham joined in, playing with Haldi and making everyone laugh.
After the Haldi function, we cleaned up the terrace and had lunch. I then went to complete my office work and returned to the terrace for the mehndi function. My brother was talking to his bride, and I teased them for a while. I wasn't feeling well due to the functions and work stress, so I sat down next to my brother and placed my head on his lap for a few minutes. We chatted about random things until the ladies came and started playing games and music.
As we began the mehendi ceremony, Abhay approached me and whispered that he wanted to talk to me. I was curious, but before he could say anything, Aansh suddenly appeared and glared at Abhay. Abhay seemed taken aback but started explaining that he was planning to change his job and start something new. I was both happy and confused - happy that he was considering a change, but confused because he had never expressed dissatisfaction with his current job before.
When I asked him why he wanted to make a change, he replied that some people had changed and he couldn't continue with the "new version of old people." I was taken aback by his comment and didn't know how to respond. Before I could ask any further questions, Reha arrived with a plate of snacks for Aansh and Abhay. I asked Reha to apply mehendi, but she declined, saying she wasn't interested. I didn't press the issue, and instead, Ridham appeared with a glass of juice, which I gratefully accepted. We all chatted for a while about our daily lives, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they were all hiding something from me. I was too tired to pursue the conversation further, so I bid them farewell and headed to my brother's room to rest.
As I lay down, I couldn't help but wonder what Abhay had meant by his comment. Was he referring to someone specific, or was it a general feeling he had? I pushed the thoughts aside and drifted off to sleep, exhausted from the day's festivities.
Next Day
Today was the day we had all been waiting for - my brother's wedding day! I woke up early and found my brother standing on the balcony, lost in thought. I hugged him tightly, and he hugged me back. We stood there in silence for a moment, taking in the significance of the day. Then, my mom joined us, and we all got emotional. I broke the silence by saying, "I think today, bhabhi will leave the house, not bhai, so why are we crying? And bhai, are you crying because now you have to tolerate bhabhi?" We all burst out laughing, and the tension was broken.
As we got ready for the function, I decided to wear a saree, but my mom suggested that I wear a heavy ghagra choli with jewellery that matched perfectly with it. She said that as the only real sister of the groom, I should look my best. I agreed and got ready. My parents were beaming with happiness, and my brother was looking at me with a confused expression, probably thinking about how fast time had flown by.
As we reached the destination, I was amazed by the beautiful decorations and the excitement in the air. We danced and enjoyed ourselves, and before I knew it, the barat was over, and we had reached the venue. The rituals began, and I was seated beside my brother, feeling a bit bored but happy to see him so happy. Ridham came and sat next to me, and we chatted for a while. Before I knew it, the priest announced that my brother and his bride were now husband and wife! The reception party was themed Western, and I wore a red body-fit gown with minimal jewellery and light makeup. I went to check on my bhabhi, who was looking stunning in her red lengha and jewellery. The couple's dance began, and everyone started meeting and greeting the newlyweds. I was busy attending to guests and having fun with my cousins and their babies.
When one of my friends called me for a picture, I clicked photos with everyone, including Abhay, Aansh, and Reha. But I didn't get a chance to click a picture with Aansh alone, which I regretted. However, Ridham dragged me to take a picture with him, and I was happy to oblige.
As the night wore on, it was almost time to take my bhabhi home. My parents and some other family members headed back to prepare for the bride's entry, and I let the couple go alone so my brother could comfort his new wife. I joined Ridham and the rest of the group, and we made our way back home.
As we walked, Reha approached me and said she wanted to talk. I was busy checking work emails on my phone, but I gave her my attention. She announced that she was getting married, and I congratulated her warmly. Before she could reveal more, we reached our home, and I rushed towards the entrance to see off Ridham and the others.
I hugged Reha tightly and congratulated her again on her upcoming marriage. I was curious about the person she was marrying, but she just smiled and said, "You'll know soon." With that, she left, and I was left wondering who the lucky person might be.
Then, Abhay and Aansh came to me, and Aansh asked to meet with me once. I agreed, telling him to come by once I was free from all the wedding festivities. After a long and tiring day, I finally went to sleep, feeling grateful for the joy and love that surrounded me.
As I drifted off, I couldn't help but think about Reha's surprise announcement and wonder who she might be marrying. I also thought about Aansh's request to meet and what he might want to talk about. But for now, I just let myself relax and enjoy the happiness that filled my heart.
