Brendon flew back to LA the following afternoon. I told him that I would think hard about the offer and that we would need to talk numbers. It was a year of my life that I would be dedicating to the band and tour. This meant that I would need to ask my assistant to take on my role. Or sell the business altogether. I don't know. I had a lot to weigh up. I decided to get my parents' advice. I got in my little mini cooper and headed over to see them.
My parents' house was huge. It was 2 storeys and the attic space. The house was made of red brick. It had a big driveway and wrought iron gates. I pulled up outside and went in. My eldest brother Ross was there with his wife Rachel and their kids, Ben and Emma. Ben was 6, and Emma was a year old. As soon as I saw the kids, I got some Auntie Rob hugs.
"Robyn!" My father said, hugging me.
"Hi Dad." I smooshed into dads chest inhaling his familiar scent.
"Where's mom?"
"She's in the garden." Dad replied. I could smell dinner. Dad must be cooking it. "You staying for dinner, kiddo?"
"If that's OK, Dad."
"Of course it is." Dad smiled. Mom came in from the garden.
"Robyn." She hugged me.
"Hi Mom."
After dinner, I spoke to my parents about the offer Brendon had made me.
"It's like your dream job, sis." Ross said, changing Emma's diaper.
"It is, but I also have a successful business. I don't know if my assistant could run it for a year and would he want to. It's a huge responsibility."
"Couldn't Michael do it?" Mom asked. I hadn't thought of my brother. He needed a job, and this would be so right for him. He could run a business easily. The bookings and actual photography side of things, my assistant Eddie would be able to do. I texted him as we sat in the garden, enjoying the late evening Las Vegas sun.
Michael messaged, saying that he would do it if I wanted him to.I got back home and called Brendon.
"Hello?" It wasn't Brendon that answered. It must be Sarah.
"Oh, hi,um, I was looking for Brendon. . You must be Sarah. I am Robyn, Brendons' best and oldest friend." There was silence for quite a few seconds. So much so that I thought the connection had dropped. I then heard Brendon in the background. He must have taken the phone from Sarah.
"Hello?" He said
"Hi Bren."
"Hey, Robyn."
"The offer you made? I need to know a few things before I make a decision."
"Ok. Could you come out to LA?"
"When for?" I asked.
"Sometime next week?"
I looked at my diary. I had a couple of bookings on Tuesday that Eddie could do.
"Is Tuesday OK? It's the only day that is doable."
"Tuesdays good. I will speak to the tour team and set the meeting up."
"Ok. I will get an early morning flight, so I should be there for about 9ish." I said
"Let me know your flight details, and I will pick you up from LAX."
I smiled into the phone. Brendon sensed what I was doing.
"Smiling, eh? People will talk. That's twice in a,week I have got you smiling on the phone." I blushed.
"Shh Urie!" I laughed. "Ok,B, I will sort my flights out and text the details. I only hope my credit card can cope." I said goodbye and went online to book flights to Los Angeles.I spoke to Eddie the following day, and he said that he could easily do the bookings. I needed to give the kid a raise after this.
I packed my bag and went to bed early. My flight was at 8 am but I had to be at the airport at 6 am.
I woke up at 4 am. I was on auto pilot until I had had my coffee.I got off the plane and headed straight for the arrivals lounge. I only had a carry-on, with fresh underwear and a change of clothes for tomorrow.
"Robyn!" I heard. I turned my head and saw Brendon. I got up off the soft chair and walked over to him, smiling. We hugged, and Brendon took my small bag.
We left the airport and headed to Brendons' record label, Fueled by Ramen. We chatted non-stop on the way there. We drove through downtown LA, and then Brendon made a left into a parking lot. We had arrived. I got out, and we both walked into the building. Brendon spoke to the receptionist and we went to a conference room. It was empty at the moment. There was a breakfast buffet set up in there, though. Brendon poured us both a coffee and plated up some breakfast goodies to share. We ate and talked when some people entered the conference room. One of them being Brendons manager and a record executive. He was smoking a cigar. There was a lady who sat next to Brendon.
The meeting started. I wrote things down and asked the questions I needed to, like insurance for myself, what my salary would be. I nodded at the salary offer. If I said yes, then I could actually fulfil my dream of moving to LA. As the meeting came to a close, I told them my decision would be tended at the end of the business day. I shook hands with everyone and left the room. Brendon stayed in there as he had some business of his own to discuss. I waited on reception. I smiled at the receptionist, and she smiled back. We struck up a conversation and ended up exchanging numbers.
Brendon came out of the conference room, and we went to get some lunch. Brendon was going to give me the tourist experience afterwards. We got back to Brendons, and I was laughing so much I was gonna pee my pants. I practically ran to the bathroom.
When I came out, Brendon had put my things in the guest room. I thanked him. I wanted to chill for a bit and weigh the options of this opportunity up. So I locked myself in the bedroom and made a start. Brendon was cooking us dinner. I could smell it. My stomach was rumbling. I called Panics team and gave them my decision.
