Lisa's parents express their gratitude, though their faces still reflect the exhaustion of the previous night. The doctor answers their questions and explains the next steps in her care.
After a brief consultation, he leaves the room, and I sense a slight shift in the atmosphere—a glimmer of hope amidst the worry.
Lisa's mother takes my hand, her eyes filled with gratitude and warmth. "Thank you for everything you did," she says softly. "We're grateful you brought her here and that you stayed with us."
I nod, feeling a mix of relief and guilt. "I just wish I could have done more to protect her," I reply, my voice tinged with sadness.
"We all did our best," she reassures me. "Right now, our focus needs to be on Lisa's recovery."
As I sit beside Lisa's bed, my heart heavy with concern, I pull out my phone and dial Rosé's number. The call connects quickly, and her familiar voice offers a small comfort amidst the chaos.
"Rosé, it's me," I say urgently, my voice tinged with the stress of the situation. "Lisa's been injured. We're at the hospital. I'm sending you the address."
I provide her with the hospital's address, noting the urgency in her response. Rosé's concern is evident, her voice steady but worried. "We'll head there right away," she says. "I'll make sure to bring Yena too."
"Be careful," I add, trying to stay calm despite the growing anxiety. "It's about a four-hour drive from where you are. Please drive safely."
"Got it," Rosé replies. "We'll be there as soon as we can. Hang in there."
We exchange brief goodbyes, and I end the call. I take a deep breath, hoping that Rosé and Yena will arrive soon and that Lisa will continue to show signs of improvement.
As I return from the restroom, I see Lisa's mother urgently calling out to me. I rush to her side, anxiety clear in my steps.
"Lisa woke up right after you left," she says, her voice trembling with both relief and concern. "She's looking for you."
Without wasting a second, I hurry back to Lisa's room. My heart pounds as I push open the door and find Lisa lying in the hospital bed, her eyes searching the room. Seeing me, she lights up with a mixture of relief and exhaustion.
"Lisa!" I call out, rushing to her bedside. "I'm here. How are you feeling?"
She manages a weak smile. "You're back. I was worried..."
I gently take her hand, careful to avoid causing any pain. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. How are you feeling? Is there anything you need?"
Lisa's expression shows a mix of pain and gratitude. "It hurts... but I'm okay. I'm glad you're here."
I nod, trying to keep my voice steady. "You're safe now. We're all here to help you get through this. Just focus on resting and recovering."
Lisa's eyes close momentarily as she gathers her strength. "I want to tell you everything. About what happened..."
I gently interrupt, sensing her fatigue. "You don't have to worry about that right now. Rest is the most important thing. We can talk later, when you're feeling better."
I gently squeeze Lisa's hand, looking into her eyes with a soft smile. "You know, even in a place like this, you manage to make everything feel just a little bit brighter."
Lisa's lips curl into a faint smile, her eyes reflecting a mixture of pain and warmth. "I didn't expect to be here... and certainly not like this. But... seeing you here with me, it means so much."
