Bus Attack

"So, you excited for your date with Stiles?" Allison asked as we walked into school.

"It's not a date," I answered.

"You're going over to his place to watch a movie. That's a date."

"You and Scott forced us to make plans, so we did. It doesn't mean it's a date."

"Hm, okay."

"Got to go. See you later."

I walked away from her and towards my locker. I was in the middle of getting my books when someone started speaking over the intercom.

"Attention students, this is your principal. I know you're all wondering about the incident that occurred last night on one of the buses. While the police work to determine what happened, classes will proceed as scheduled. Thank you."

What was he talking about? I walked to my first period class (music), and was a little shocked to see Stiles there. I don't have any classes with him, so what was he doing here? I sat down next to him.

"What are you doing here?" I whispered.

"You have a substitute today, and I didn't want to go to chemistry," he explained. "I swear that teacher hates me."

"Oh."

"Plus, I wanted to talk to you."

"About?"

"About our plans."

I shifted in my seat. Why do we need to talk about our plans? Is he cancelling? What if he's cancelling? I don't know if I'm disappointed or relieved at the thought.

"What about them?" I questioned.

"Am I picking you up?" he asked.

"Um, I guess so."

"Okay. Oh, and here's a heads up. My sister is going to be there. Well, she won't be watching the movies with us, but she's going to be in the house. She's can be intimidating sometimes."

"Well, I'm a wolf. I doubt a little girl can intimidate me."

"You've never met Emma."

I laughed. We talked the entire period. I ignored the work the substitute handed out, and so did he. He was telling me about some of his favorite movies, and we talked some more about our plans for the weekend. It was fun spending time with Stiles. I consider him a really good friend already, even though we haven't known each other long. Our friendship is great. Why do Allison and Scott keep assuming more?

Lunch is my favorite part of the day. Want to know why? Because food. And also because I got to spend time with Scott, Allison, and Stiles. I never imagined I'd have good friends like them. I walked into the cafeteria and was surprised to see that our usual table was filled up. Scott and Stiles were sitting across from each other, and Allison was by Scott's side as always. Lydia was on the other side of Scott. Since when does she sit with us? I thought. Stiles had a girl I didn't recognize to his left, and Danny, one of the lacrosse players on his right.

Danny was in one of my classes, and we worked as partners one time in science class. He's really sweet.

Jackson sat at the head of the table and glared at Stiles every time he caught him staring at Lydia. Seeing there was no more space for me to sit, I was just standing at the door. I didn't know where to sit. I looked around the cafeteria to find an empty seat by someone, but it seemed like everyone's table was already full. The only table left was a completely empty one, and I didn't want to sit alone. Everyone would stare at me and make me uncomfortable. I went to the lunch line, and got my tray of food. After I got my tray, I went to leave the lunch room, but Stiles locked eyes with me. I quickly turned away from him and walked out.

I went to the field and sat down on the grass. It was quiet and peaceful. There was a light breeze and the sun was shining. A few puffy white clouds filled the sky. Suddenly, I sensed someone behind me. Derek.

"You know you really shouldn't sneak up on me," I said loud enough for him to hear. "I may accidentally hurt you."

"I'd like to see you try," Derek smirked, sitting down next to me.

"Is that a challenge?"

"Maybe."

I laughed and leaned back on my hands. I know Scott told me to not be around this guy, but I'm bored and alone. No one will know I was with him anyway.

"What are you doing here?" I inquired.

"I told you I've been watching you," Derek answered.

"Dude, that's seriously creepy. Come up with a lie to stop making yourself seem like a weirdo."

"What? It's the truth."

"Yeah, whatever. Why are you watching me?"

"I'm guessing Scott has already told you about the alpha."

"Yes. I don't have any clue who it is, so if you think I'm working with it-"

"I know you don't know anything about it. I've been keeping an eye on you to protect you."

"Protect me?"

"I thought maybe the alpha would come after you for some reason. You're an omega. That's dangerous."

"But I'm also a Hunter."

"Bella, what- What are you doing here?" I heard Stiles come up from behind us.

"Hey, Stiles, come join the party," I laughed.

"What are you doing here, Hale?"

"None of your business," Derek snapped, standing up. "I'll see you around, Isabella."

"No, you won't," Stiles replied.

Derek left, and I stood up, turning to face Stiles.

"Scott and I told you to stay away from him," he said.

"I can talk to him if I want to," I rolled my eyes.

"He's bad news. He can hurt you."

"I can protect myself."

"You don't know what he's capable of."

"Do you?"

Stiles went quiet and I shook my head. I picked up my tray off the grass.

"I'm just looking out for you," Stiles mumbled.

"Yeah, I know," I sighed.

"Sorry for not saving you a seat."

"It's fine. Did you hear about what happened on one of the buses last night?"

"Yeah, we were just talking about it in lunch. An animal attacked a guy. He's in critical condition. They think it was a mountain lion, but I don't think so."

"Then what was it?"

Stiles explained to me how Scott blacked out last night, and doesn't remember anything while he was a wolf. Scott is scared he's the one who hurt the guy, but I shook my head.

"There's no way it was Scott," I frowned. "He wouldn't do this."

"He lost control," Stiles replied. "He doesn't remember anything, so we don't know if he did this."

We walked back into the school and I bit my lip. Could Scott actually do this?
