"Vinnie, this shovel is weighing me down."
"We're almost there, ya overgrown twig."
They had been walking for a while now in the shallow light of the early, early, morning- shovels balanced over their shoulders .
No, they weren't going to kill anyone.
They were heading somewhere else.
They rounded the last building on the block, and there it was.
A huge entrance sign read:
"Ramshackle Town Graveyard" And a little wooden sign nailed in beneath it:
"NO SCRAPS ALLOWED"
"This is it, gang," Vinnie said, holding one arm out like a school bus stop sign. The two guards in front keeping watch were both asleep, perfect timing.
Vinnie turned to the other two, her shovel just barely missing Stone's head.
"Vinnie careful with that thing-" He whisper-hissed. Vinnie ignored him and silently used her hands and some signals to communicate the plan. When she finished, Skipp nodded with determination- and Stone only rolled his eyes.
With two fingers, Vinnie pointed a finger gun at the entrance. She turned to start moving– nearly hitting Stone's face again.
"Vinnie-!" He hissed again. Skipp nudged his side and held a finger up to his mouth. Stone narrowed his eyes in annoyance and trudged on.
They approached the entrance altogether, tiptoeing quietly past the guards.
As they passed, Skipp picked up one guard's hat that supposedly had fallen from his head when he bent over and slept- reaching up to place it back on its owner.
"Skipp- hurry up." Vinnie called in a whisper from ahead.
"Coming!" Skipp called back.
The three entered the graveyard, marveling at the vast area. Vinnie swung her shovel off her shoulder, brandishing it.
"Alrighty then, let's get to diggin'-!"
They each stood knee deep in grave holes, pants and shovels covered in dirt. Skipp shambled over to Vinnie's pit.
"Hey Vinnie, are you sure about this right now? Because it feels kind of wrong to dig up other people's graves."
"Yeah, but these aren't just any graves, they're rich people's graves, so they wouldn't even notice their missing fortunes or whatever we dig up." She paused, stabbing her shovel into the earth to lean on it. "And besides, they're already dead! One job already done- piece of bean cake for us." Vinnie explained confidently, before turning to continue her digging. Skipp's expression brightened and he shrugged, smiling.
"Oh-kay."
A few minutes later, Stone exclaimed:
"I found something-!" Everyone hurried over, leaning into him.
"What'd you find?'
Stone squinted at the small coin in the faint light.
"It's... a token. To '8's Arcade'."
They paused.
"That's not worth anything. Just leave it there." Vinnie decided, and both her and Skipp returned to their shovels, moving on to farther graves.
Stone sighed, crouching down in the hole he had dug. He leaned down in the dirt a little more to inspect to coin a bit longer.
"Trash.." He muttered, about to toss it away- before an unfamiliar voice shot into his ear.
