As my father kissed my cheek and wished me well, saying, "We love you, baby, have fun," I rolled my eyes. I hadn't wanted to come to this summer camp, but they believed it would be beneficial for me, whatever that was supposed to mean.

"You sure yall want me to stay with these strangers?"

"I think you'll change your mind when you see who's behind you," my mother remarked. I turned around and saw my best friend, Lauren, standing there with a smile on her face.

"Bitch you didn't tell me you were coming!" I yelled jumping on her to hug her, I felt my mom pull me back giving me that stern look.

"Watch your language, that's exactly why you're here now" she shook her head.

"Sorry mom I just got a little excited"

"Okay well honey we're about to go" My father said and I waved them off going with Lauren.

"Girl, it's actually nice. The rooms are cute as fuck and I told them bitches the other bed was reserved for you" she said and I chuckled.

"I know that's right, lay down the ground rules around this motherfucker"

As we walked further into the camp, I glanced around and noticed that it was actually quite nice. I began to think that I could make the best of this experience after all.

"Damn, yall some bad bitches I need to room with yall" we heard as we turned around seeing a girl with red hair. she had on khaki shorts and her camp shirt tied up showing her stomach.

"Thank you, what's your name?"

"Janae, but you can call me sexyy red"

"But you no-" I interrupted Lauren by playfully hitting her arm. I smiled and extended my hand for a handshake, but she pulled me into a hug instead.

"I do hugs around this motherfucker, I need to hang with yall. I'll catch up with yall though I seen a fine ass man i'm trying to get him to crack me" she ran out hollering out for him.

I lauged "She's crazy"

"Tell me about it" Lauren said. "Oooouu we should go swimming, a lot of people are out there already"

I agreed and entered the room, and Lauren was right-it was nice. I had expected to see the typical wooden, broken-down beds you often see in movies, but this place felt more like a cozy cabin getaway. There were two queen-sized beds, and the decor was elegantly done. I loved it and knew I would enjoy spending the summer here with my best friend.

I opened my suitcase and chose to wear my pink bathing suit with a cover-up skirt. I released my hair from its ponytail, letting my long, wavy black hair cascade down my shoulders. I glanced in the mirror and applied some lip gloss.

"Bitch you so damn thick" she said slapping my ass as I started twerking.

"You ready?" I asked, she nodded.

We made our way down to the water, and the sight took my breath away. The water was a stunning shade of blue and crystal clear, giving off the illusion that we were on some tropical island. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in the water.

Lauren and I set our belongings on one of the tables before I removed my cover-up, eager to join in the fun.

"Damn, yall fine as hell" I looked up seeing some boys smiling in our faces.

"Thank you daddy" Lauren whore ass replied.

"Can I carry you on my back to the water?" the darkskinned one said looking at me biting his lip.

"I can walk just fine" I chuckled.

"Oh you going to make me work hard for it?" he asked.

"Hard for what, boo? I'm gay, so if you want a hug, I can give you that," I replied straightforwardly. They eventually got the hint and walked away. I shook my head in disbelief-it hadn't even been an hour since I arrived.

Me and Lauren went down into the water and started swimming and having a good time, other girls be in the water to be cute I be swimming like i'm a mermaid.

"I think you're going to like it hear Nic" she said.

"We'll see, I'm only okay because you're here. I would've been miserable if I were stuck with that sexy girl and those thirsty boys," I remarked, and Lauren laughed. She kept talking, but I was soon distracted by a soft, beautiful singing that seemed to call out to me.

"Lauren you hear that?" I asked and she kept swimming as if she couldn't hear me. "LAUREN!"

The singing got louder and louder to my ear, when I turned around I saw from a distance long blonde hair glistening blowing in the wind, the girl was turned away from me leaning on a rock, I squinted my eyes to look at what this was, she slightly turned her face and looked at me winking before going under the water.

What the fuck?

"Nicki," Lauren's voice snapped me out of the trance I was in, and I looked around to see her standing out of the water, along with everyone else who had been in the water.

"I must've drifted off, i'm sorry what?" I asked getting out of the water.

"It's dinner time, boo. We've been in here for hours," Lauren said, and I scrunched my face in confusion. Hadn't we just gotten into the water?

"Lo.." I asked her while we were walking back to the campsite. "Did you not hear that singing or the girl with the blonde hair?"

"Girl, nobody was singing. That heat must be getting to you," Lauren laughed as she walked into the dining room where everyone else was. I stayed behind, lost in my thoughts. The evening was setting in, and the sky outside had dimmed slightly.

As I made my way towards the dining room, someone brushed past me, their long blonde hair neatly pulled back into a ponytail. I felt a sense of familiarity as the person turned around, their gaze locking onto mine.

"Hi, i'm Beyonce" she said sticking her hand out for me to shake it and I did.

"I'm Onika" I said, for some reason I was stuck on her features, why did it feel like I knew her.

"Welcome to Camp Evergreen," she smiled warmly, before walking into the building, humming a tune that sent a shiver down my spine. Instantly, my face registered shock as the melody felt eerily familiar to me.

She looked back and winked at me.
