Nico's POV:
The Path stretched before Nico and Will, an intricate maze of ancient trees and winding trails glowing slightly by the map's magic.
The air was thick with magic, and the path ahead shimmered with illusions.
"Are you sure we're on the right path?" Will asked, squinting at the map.
Nico rolled his eyes. "Yes, Solace. We're following the map exactly."
"È come viaggiare con un bambino. " (It's like traveling with a child.) Nico thought, irritated.
Will glanced at Nico, clearly sensing his annoyance. "Look, I know you're all Mr. Shadowy and brooding, but maybe lighten up a bit?"
Nico stopped abruptly, turning to face Will. "Lighten up? We're in an enchanted forest, facing gods know what, and you want me to lighten up?"
Will sighed. "Fine, you won't listen. Let's just keep moving."
The forest around them seemed to pulse with life. As they walked, the path began to change, twisting and turning in ways that defied logic.
Trees moved subtly, their branches whispering secrets.
"Did that tree just move?" Will asked, eyes wide.
"Yes, and it's trying to trick us. Stay close," Nico instructed, his voice firm.
Suddenly, the ground beneath them shifted, creating a steep incline. Nico's shadowy senses tingled, alerting him to danger. "Watch out!"
They barely managed to avoid a pitfall that had opened up beneath their feet. Will grinned, trying to make light of the situation.
"Nice catch, Death Boy."
Nico glared. "Don't call me that."
"Fine, Mr. di Angelo," Will said, emphasizing the last name.
They continued, their banter masking the tension. The forest seemed to grow denser, and the light dimmed as if the trees themselves were blocking out the sun. Suddenly, The forest was becoming eerily quiet.
As they trudged through the dense forest, Nico felt an unsettling sensation prickle at the back of his neck. His eyes darted around the towering trees and thick underbrush, but he saw nothing unusual.
Despite the apparent emptiness, the feeling of being watched persisted, like several pairs of unseen eyes boring into his back. His instincts screamed that something—or someone—was lurking in the shadows, silently observing their every move.
Nico's hand tightened around the hilt of his sword, ready for whatever might emerge from the gloom. He whispered to Will, "Stay alert. I think we're not alone."
"Welcome, travelers," a young dryad said, her voice like a gentle breeze. "You have passed the first test."
The air around them began feeling cool and calming, a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere they had just left.
