The following morning dawned with a crispness that hinted at the approaching winter. Safe Haven was bustling with activity as people went about their daily tasks—tending to crops, repairing structures, and sharing moments of camaraderie amidst the remnants of their past struggles. Newt and Thomas found themselves drawn into the rhythm of the community, each day bringing new challenges and opportunities to contribute.

As they walked through the settlement, Thomas and Newt were greeted with nods of recognition and warm smiles. The news of their return had spread quickly, sparking a renewed sense of hope among the residents of Safe Haven. They stopped occasionally to chat with familiar faces—Minho's hearty laugh echoing across the fields as he supervised a group of workers, Frypan's culinary skills in high demand at the community kitchen, and Brenda and Jorge coordinating supplies and logistics for the settlement.

Throughout it all, Thomas and Newt remained inseparable. They spent hours catching up on the events that had transpired since their separation—Thomas recounting their journey to Safe Haven, the challenges they had faced, and the gradual process of rebuilding their lives. Newt listened intently, sharing his own experiences of survival in the harsh wilderness outside the Scorch and the unexpected alliances they had formed along the way.

One afternoon, as they sat by the edge of a small pond on the outskirts of Safe Haven, Newt broached a topic that had been weighing on his mind since their reunion.

"Thomas," he began tentatively, skimming pebbles across the water's surface, "there's something I need to say. Back there, in the Maze... when I thought we'd lost you and Minho, I... I realized how much you mean to me."

Thomas turned to him, a mixture of curiosity and concern in his expression. "Newt, you don't have to..."

"No, listen," Newt interrupted gently, meeting Thomas's gaze with unwavering sincerity. "I've always cared about you, more than I could ever say. And when I thought I'd lost you... it tore me apart."

Thomas's brow furrowed slightly, his voice softening. "Newt, I..."

"I love you, Tommy," Newt confessed quietly, his heart laid bare. "Not just as a friend, but... something more. Something I've been too scared to admit until now."

For a moment, the air between them seemed to still, the sounds of the settlement fading into the background. Thomas searched Newt's eyes, emotions flickering across his features—surprise, understanding, and a hint of something deeper that mirrored Newt's own feelings.

"Newt," Thomas finally said, his voice barely above a whisper, "I... I think I've always known. And... I love you too."

A wave of relief washed over Newt, mingled with a rush of joy that threatened to overwhelm him. Without hesitation, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to Thomas's—a gentle, tender kiss that spoke volumes of the years they had spent apart and the hope of a future together.

Hands intertwined,  they were sharing stories and dreams that had been kept hidden for too long. Around them, the world continued to turn, Safe Haven bustling with life and promise. The scars of their past remained, but in each other's embrace, Newt and Thomas found a new beginning—a chance to rebuild not only their lives but their love, in a world where anything seemed possible.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, amber glow across the quiet beach of Safe Haven, Newt and Thomas found themselves seated together on the soft sand. They had wandered away from the bustling activity of the settlement, seeking a moment of tranquility away from prying eyes and curious glances.

The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore created a soothing melody, blending seamlessly with the soft whispers of the evening breeze. Seabirds called out in the distance, their cries punctuating the peaceful atmosphere, while the salty scent of the ocean permeated the air.

Newt shifted closer to Thomas, their shoulders brushing lightly. Thomas turned to him with a gentle smile, reaching out to intertwine their fingers. The touch was familiar yet electrifying, sending a rush of warmth through both of them—a silent affirmation of their love and the unbreakable bond they shared.

Without a word, they leaned into each other, their legs intertwining in a tender embrace. Newt nestled his head against Thomas's shoulder, inhaling the clean, salty sea air mingled with the faint scent of Thomas's cologne. Thomas wrapped his arm around Newt's waist, pulling him close until their bodies fit snugly together, as if they were two pieces of a puzzle finally finding their perfect match.

The evening sky above was painted with hues of pink and orange, the last remnants of daylight giving way to the twinkling stars that emerged one by one. The quiet intimacy of the moment enveloped them, the world around them fading into insignificance as they savored each other's presence.

They remained like that for a timeless moment, Newt feeling the steady rhythm of Thomas's heartbeat against his chest, a reassuring cadence that grounded him in the present. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore created a lullaby, soothing their weary souls and easing the tension that had built up over years of separation and hardship.

Thomas ran his fingers through Newt's hair, a gesture that never failed to bring a sense of calm and security to Newt's restless mind. The sand beneath them was cool and soft, a comforting contrast to the warmth of their intertwined bodies. They closed their eyes, letting the sensations and sounds of the beach wash over them, immersing themselves in the serenity of the moment.

Their embrace tightened, their hearts beating in sync with the rhythm of the waves. In the embrace of the night, under the watchful gaze of the stars above, they found solace in each other's presence—a sanctuary where the turmoil of the past could fade away, leaving only the promise of a future filled with hope and love.

As the night deepened, fatigue finally caught up with them. Newt shifted to lie down on the soft sand, Thomas following suit, their intertwined legs and arms maintaining their connection. Thomas draped an arm protectively over Newt, pulling him close until they were entwined in a cocoon of warmth and affection.

They gazed up at the star-studded sky, the vast expanse of the universe stretching out before them. Thomas pressed a kiss to Newt's temple, a silent vow echoing in the peaceful stillness of the night. And like that, they fell asleep.
