I saw him take off his jacket and gently place it around my shoulders. Then he said I must be careful of what I'm doing.
Nakita ko na kumunot ang noo niya sabay sabing, "I'm not your chaperone," sabi niya.
"Are you insane? Look at yourself," sabi niya.
I glanced down at my dress. His jacket was still draped over my shoulder, and I remembered that I had unzipped my dress, so I zipped it back up. Then I looked at him and said,
"I'm fine now," sabi ko.
"You're so stubborn, woman. Just sit and we will buy an ice cream."
"Just zip your mouth, okay?" sabi niya.
As the car pulled out onto the road, the tension between us lingered in the air. I kept my eyes closed, trying to steady myself against the swirling feeling in my head.
As we approached a small town, he pulled into a parking spot near an ice cream shop.
"We're here," he announced, turning off the engine. "
I watched as he walked into the ice cream shop, returning shortly with a single cone in hand. He got back into the car and handed me the ice cream before starting the engine again.
"Here," he said softly, offering me the treat.
"Thank you," I replied, taking it with a grateful smile.
He nodded quietly, his face getting softer. He drove quietly, the sweet ice cream making me feel better. I looked at him sometimes, not sure what to say. He seemed lost in thought, focused on driving.
After a while, I finished my ice cream cone and held onto the empty wrapper, feeling thankful yet awkward. The car felt tense with things we hadn't said. Even though the sweetness melted in my mouth, it couldn't calm the rising heat inside me.
Then out of nowhere, he said, "You've been drugged," with concern evident in his voice. His sudden revelation sent a chill down my spine.
"What did you say?" I asked again, feeling a bit confused.
"You're too innocent to know," he replied softly, shaking his head as he drove the car onto the road.
I asked him to pull over as I couldn't bear the intense heat anymore. As the car slowed to a stop, I got out onto the quiet road. Desperate for relief, I threw off his jacket inside the car, hoping to cool down. Before I could speak, he gently interrupted.
He was next to me. His calm, serious voice cut through my confusion.
"I warned you about talking to strangers. Look at what's happening now," he said, looking serious.
"Why are you talking to me then?" I snapped, feeling frustrated. He frowned, his expression softening slightly as he looked at me.
"You think throwing off my jacket or dressing down will help you ease the heat?" he asked seriously, his tone steady as he reached for his jacket.
I paused, feeling unsure under his intense gaze. "All I needed was some air to cool down," I said quietly, feeling a bit defensive.
"You've been drugged, do you understand?" he said urgently, his voice cutting through my confusion.
My heart skipped a beat as his words sank in. I felt confused and couldn't quite understand what he was saying at first.
"Drugged?" I managed to repeat, my voice barely a whisper.
"Someone drugged you," he said firmly.
"That's why you feel like that. The guy I punched did it; he put something in your drink," he added grimly, his voice filled with anger and concern as he glanced back at me.
But I guess the medicine I gave to you can't fully ease the heat inside you," he said softly, his eyes showing concern.
I stared at him, still trying to make sense of the fact that someone had slipped something into my drink. His words hit me hard, and I started to understand just how complicated things had become. Even though he was trying to help, I still felt confused and weak from the drug.
"It's okay, I... I appreciate everything you've done," I said, my voice shaking a bit.
"I can handle this," I said to him, taking a deep breath. Before I could say more, his voice broke through the haze of my thoughts.
"But I think this will help you," he said softly.
"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling confused and a bit scared. He didn't answer. Instead, he moved closer to me.
Before I could ask him again, he kissed me softly. His warm lips showed he cared deeply. I felt surprised and unsure but strangely comforted by his touch.
