Alastor's POV
Vox and I lay in the middle of the room, both covered head to toe in paint and exhausted. Apparently this is the room Vox does whatever in. Paint, target practice, rage room. Anything. That's why there's paint everywhere and a bunch of random stuff. Very colorful room. I hope Val doesn't kill me for ruining his shirt. I'm sure he won't mind. Or I just steal it and burn it later. I like that idea. I think I'll do that.
I hear the door open and both Vox and I lift our heads up to look at it. Oh the moth is here. He looks around the room before looking at us.
"The fuck happened to you two?" He asks.
"Paint war," Vox answers. "Very fun." Val rolls his eyes. "Are you done with work?"
"No. I came to check up on you two. Since Voxxy, you're kind of stupid." I laugh. Couldn't agree more.
"I'm not stupid!"
"Now get up and do something productive." Valentino leaves and Vox gets up, but I don't. He raises an eyebrow at me.
"I don't wanna. My limbs hurt," I say, completely bullshitting. I feel fine. I'm just lazy right now. Why am I feeling lazy? Normally I'm never lazy. Weird. He tilts his head and smiles softly.
"Do you want me to carry you?" I nod. He picks me up and carries me out of the room. He takes me to his room and set me on the floor. "We should take showers to get the paint off."
"I don't really have anything to wear."
"Hmmm." Vox digs through his closet. I notice a pink bag sitting beside the closet door.
"What's in the bag?" Vox hums and looks back at me. I point to it and he looks at it.
"Oh. Something Val got for you." I don't know if I trust it. I don't know if I want to know what it is. "Do you want to wear a dress shirt or a T-shirt?"
"I-"
"Here." He throws a blue dress shirt on the ground beside me. I guess the dress shirt it is. "I also have these long socks you can wear. Should cover up enough." He throws blue socks and a pair of underwear at me too. "Now go shower. I'll shower in Val's bathroom."
"Okay." Vox leaves and I pick up my clothes. This is what my afterlife has come to. Wearing Vox's dress shirt and socks. I don't see why I can't wear my own dress shirt. Whatever. I walk into Vox's bathroom and grab a towel off the shelf. Once I figure out how to use this weird shower, I manage to turn it on to a reasonable temperature. I strip and step in. I wash the paint off my skin, which is easier than I thought it would be. Getting it out of my hair is a challenge. I think I still have paint in my hair. Oh well.
I dry off and put on my new clothes. I put on my glasses, regaining my vision. The dress shirt reaches to about mid thigh and the sock covers my whole leg. Damn.
I walk out of the bathroom, grab a book, and out of Vox's room. These are some soft ass socks. I'm stealing them. They're mine now. I walk down the halls, looking for a place I just sit and read. I feel someone grab me.
"Well don't you look fine wearing my clothes," Vox says.
"You say I look good in anything."
"Because you do," he purrs. "What were you going to do?" I hold up my book, giving a silent answer. He doesn't say anything more and drags me to the living room area. He lays on the couch and positions me to lay on him. I lay the book on his chest and read as he plays on his mobile device. "Al...," Vox says a few minutes later.
"Yes, dear?" I look up from my book. He sets his mobile device on my back.
"Did...did someone own your soul? I mean, at the meeting when you became human, you looked happy when Carmilla said changing to human breaks the contract. You had a genuine smile on your face, I could tell." I sigh. I cross my arms on his chest and lay my head in them.
"Yes, someone did own my soul. Before I met you."
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"It wouldn't have changed anything. It might have made matters worse if I told you. She would've probably killed you." She definitely would've killed Vox if I had told him. I would probably not even be here right now if I told anybody. Not even Rosie knows.
"Who? Who owned your soul, Al?"
"Lilith." I look away. I bury my head more into my arms. "She...she's in Heaven right now. She believes in the silly redemption idea so she sent me back down here to protect the hotel," I mumble into my arms. "She'll find out eventually that I'm free and come down to reclaim my soul." I feel Vox's hand scratch the top of my head, comforting me. I relax to the simple touch, closing my eyes.
"I won't let her. You're stuck with me and Val." I chuckle.
"I guess I am." My eyelids start to get heavy and I doze off in his arms.
