CORVINA HAWKE
"What the fuck are you doing here?" I screamed at Seb as he slipped into the backseat of the car. I turned to look at Warren's car that we had been tailing to his hotel but it had disappeared.
"I wanted to see you at work." My brother responded.
"Trish could have killed you right now." I pulled my mask down my face as I looked at my brother. "He could have run you over with the car! What is wrong with you?!" My heart was thundering in my chest as the adrenaline crashed through my body. "Where is Lily?" I demanded before he could even open his mouth.
"She's in the car down the street. She thought I was going to take a leak." Trish made a face as I tried to reign in the worry and anger I felt brewing in my chest.
"I explicitly told you to stay in the apartment." I pointed out. "Why won't you listen to me?!" I added.
"I listened to you. I was at the apartment all evening but then I got bored so I asked Lily to drive me around town. She said that your new target's hotel was in the area so I pulled up maps and was trying to find it. I wanted to know how you would kill him," Sebastian said as if it was completely reasonable for him to have disobeyed me and came out when I had clearly asked him not to.
I blinked at him in surprise. In the years I had spent apart from my brother, I'd forgotten how much work little siblings were. I had forgotten how disobedient they were.
"God, Seb." I groaned, rubbing a hand down my face. Warren's car had disappeared down the street and from how much time had passed, he must have gotten inside the hotel by now. I sighed. "Trish, abort the mission."
Trish shot me a look and I knew what he was thinking. "I can't go into the hotel. We were supposed to intercept him before he could get inside. But he's gone. I am not sparing him. I am just postponing the inevitable." I explained myself.
"Right." Trish rolled his eyes. "As if a target getting out of the red zone has ever stopped you from going after them anyway."
I pursed my lips, trying to keep the profanities inside that I wanted to throw at my friend. "Just drive back to the apartment." I turned to the earpiece in my ear and relayed the information to Lily. And she had a lot of explaining to do.
......
"I gave you one job, Lilian!" I ran a hand through my hair as I paced the living area. Lily, Trish, and Sebastian sat on the couch across from me, watching me freak out. "He could have been run over by Trish's car!" I pointed at my little brother who didn't look the least bit apologetic.
"He wouldn't leave me alone so I thought I would drive him around for a while." She responded, shooting Seb a blazing glare. "I didn't know he would fool me." She added.
"Hey, I did have to pee." Sebastian defended himself. Trish reigned in a chuckle and I shot him a look. He sobered up, wiping the smile off his face with his hand.
"Warren walked away. After I told the Big Guy that I would put him down tonight." I threw my hands up in the air, frustrated. I knew I was more pissed at myself than anybody else. I could have snuck into Warren's hotel. I could have killed him tonight anyway. But...but I couldn't.
"I am sorry, Cor." Seb looked at me with that look on his face that made me want to squish his cheeks between my hands when we were little. It hadn't lost its effect on me yet.
"It's fine but if you want to stay here, Seb, you need to respect my rules." I sighed, my shoulders sagging. "Now, please go to bed. We will talk tomorrow morning."
He nodded, relief entering his features. I walked over to him and kissed his head, ruffling his hair before sending him toward the guest room. Once he was out of earshot, I turned to my friends.
