Alex's POV
I was sitting with my teammates, all of us still buzzing from our recent victory on the soccer field. We were in the locker room, the air filled with the sound of laughter and victory cheers.
I was sitting on a bench, a towel around my neck, my hair damp with sweat from the game. My teammates were all talking around me, some of them chatting about the match, some of them just lounging around, enjoying the victory.
I took a swig from my water bottle, feeling the cold liquid cool me down. I was in a good mood, elated from our win. We had worked hard for this victory, and it felt amazing to finally achieve it.
I pulled out my phone, wanting to share my victory with Taylor. We had been talking less lately, and I missed her. I dialed her number, my heart fluttering with excitement.
I waited for a few moments, but she didn't answer. Disappointed, I tried calling once more, but still there was no response.
Victoria, one of my teammates, noticed my frustrated expression. "Maybe she's asleep," she suggested, giving me a reassuring smile.
I nodded, trying to push away my disappointment. "Yeah, maybe," I replied, forcing a smile. I knew that Taylor was probably just asleep.
I opened my phone and sent a few texts to Taylor. "Hey, call me when you wake up," I typed, followed by, "the team won the game. I wish you were celebrating with me."
I continued sending texts, trying to capture my victory in words.
"We were amazing out there, I scored the winning goal. I wish you could have seen it."
I sent a photo of me and my teammates, all of us with our arms raised in victory.
My teammates were all still chattering and laughing around me. Some of them were changing out of their soccer gear, while others were sharing stories about the game. Suddenly, lily, one of my friends on the team, spoke up.
"Hey, guys, we should totally go out to celebrate our win," she suggested, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We all deserve a night out after that amazing game!"
The team all chimed in, agreeing excitedly. "Yeah, let's do it!" "We deserve to let loose!" "Who's down for a night out?" Everyone was in agreement that we should go out and celebrate.
I was immediately up for it. I was feeling elated from our victory, and the thought of going out and celebrating with my friends was appealing. "Count me in," I said, grinning at my teammates.
My teammates all cheered, excited for the night ahead. We all started gathering our things, quickly changing out of our soccer gear and getting ready to hit the city.
Within a few minutes, we were all ready to go. We left the locker room, energized and buzzing with anticipation.
As we walked out of the stadium, I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement. Tonight was going to be a night to remember.
As we walked towards the club, I passed by a jewelry store. The window display was filled with sparkling diamonds and gold rings, catching my eye. I slowed down as we walked past, my eyes locked on one ring in particular.
The ring was beautiful. It was elegant, it sparkled brilliantly in the light. I could imagine giving it to Taylor, seeing the look on her face as I slipped it onto her finger.
As I looked at the ring, my teammate's voice suddenly interrupted my daydream. "OMG GUYS, Alex is thinking about proposing!" she shouted, drawing the attention of the rest of the team.
Everyone turned to look at me, their eyes wide with surprise. I felt my cheeks heat up as I realized I had been caught staring at the ring. "I'm not- I mean, I was just looking," I stammered, trying to downplay my sudden interest in the jewelry.
But my teammates weren't buying it. "Oh, come on," one of them teased. "You were totally looking at that ring like you were imagining putting it on someone's finger!" Another one chimed in, "Oh my god, you're thinking about proposing to Taylor, aren't you?"
I felt my face grow even redder as my teammates continued to tease me. "I'm not saying anything," I mumbled, but I couldn't hide my smile. Their words had made me realize just how much I wanted to propose to Taylor. I couldn't deny it any longer.
As we continued walking to the club, my teammates kept up their teasing, laughing and joking about my supposed plans to propose. I tried to ignore them, but their words had planted the seed in my mind. I couldn't get the image of a ring on Taylor's finger out of my head.
We finally reached the club, and we all filed inside, the atmosphere was electric with excitement. The music was loud, the lights were dim, and there was a sense of carefree enjoyment in the air. But in the back of my mind, the picture of the ring remained.
As we found a table and sat down, I tried to focus on the night's celebration, the victory and the fun we were all having together. But every now and then, my eyes would be drawn back to the jewelry shop we had passed, and the image of the ring would pop into my mind once more.
As my teammates were distracted chatting amongst themselves, I slowly slipped away from the table. I whispered to them,"I'll be right back."
I walked quickly back to the jewelry shop we had passed by. The shop was still open, the display of rings still sparkling in the window. I pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The shop was quiet and elegant, with a selection of high-end jewelry displayed on velvet cushions. I walked towards the diamond ring I had seen before, my heart beating loudly in my chest. It looked even more beautiful up close.
I picked up the ring, turning it in my hand. The diamond caught the light, throwing off a thousand tiny sparks. It was perfect - exactly the kind of ring I could imagine giving to Taylor.
But then doubt crept in. Was I being impulsive? Was proposing too soon? I set the ring back down on its pillow, my mind suddenly full of self-doubt.
I stood there, torn between my heart and my head. I wanted so badly to give Taylor this ring, to show her how much I loved her. But I was also scared. What if she wasn't ready? What if I was making a mistake?
I pulled out my phone, looking at the lock screen. It was a picture of me and Taylor, taken a few months ago. We were out in the sun, both of us wearing swimsuits and dripping wet from a day of swimming. It was one of my favorite pictures of us.
As I looked at the picture, my heart ached with all the love I felt for Taylor. She was my world, my everything. I couldn't imagine my life without her. And in that moment, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
I put my phone away, the decision made. I looked at the ring once more, and this time, I knew without a doubt what I was going to do.
I took a deep breath, then turned to the clerk. "Excuse me," I said, pointing at the diamond ring. "Can you tell me how much this ring is?"
The clerk smiled and replied, "That ring is priced at $61,000."
It was more than I had ever spent on anything in my life. But looking at the ring, I knew it was perfect. "I'll take it."
The clerk's eyes widened in surprise, but then she smiled. "Excellent choice," she said, taking the ring from its display. "Shall I wrap it for you?"
I nodded. "Yes, I'd like it wrapped extra special, and in the most expensive box you have."
The clerk nodded back, impressed by my demand. "You're in luck," she said. "We have a gorgeous diamond-encrusted box we use for our most precious pieces. It's perfect for a ring like this one." She walked off to prepare the box, leaving me alone with my thoughts once more.
As I waited for the clerk to return, I marveled at the situation I found myself in. I was buying an engagement ring for the love of my life, and I was doing it without hesitation. It felt surreal, but at the same time, it just felt right.
While I waited, my mind kept going back to Taylor. What was she doing right now? Was she thinking of me? Was she missing me as much as I was missing her?
