Merlin Academy shone in the moonlight. At the center of the school loomed a palace with neat paths surrounding it.
The students of Merlin Academy all hurried through the halls in crowds, rushing away from the villains. One by one, they closed and locked their doors, scared to disobey the curfew set by them.
Outside, the lights turned on, casting an ominous blue glow over the empty paths. A lone figure snuck through the shadows; her spiky-studded hood pulled over her head.
"I'm a rebel, I'm a menace, I'm a one-girl riot, yeah, yeah, yeah." She darted under a lamp, carefully tucking a lock of her auburn hair out of sight.
"Slippin' through the shadows like I'm ultraviolet, yeah, yeah." Skyler, a sixteen-year-old renegade with sharp eyes, kept her face hidden in shadow as she peered around the corner.
"Owls on the wall but no love in these streets,
appetite for destruction, a girl's gotta eat, devil on my shoulder, and it won't be quiet, yeah, yeah."Numerous owl-shaped topiaries and urns of roses littered the empty courtyard, and Skyler used her stealth to her advantage as she grabbed a pair of gardening shears and ran down a row of primly manicured hedges, lopping off the bloom of every rose with a sharp snip.
She turned a corner to stand beneath a three-story portrait of the headmaster that hung over the side of a building.
"I'm on a path of destruction," Skyler looked up through the lacy black eye mask she wore. She held up a bulging water balloon filled with red paint.
"This is gonna be fun."
She hurled it at the headmaster's portrait and watched with satisfaction as the paint exploded and dripped down his smiling face.
"Set it off." Moving on to the tall vases full of roses, Skyler picked up a croquet mallet and smashed the first one with an expert baseball swing. "Go berserk."
She raised the mallet high and crushed a second. "Tonight, I light it up like fireworks."
She knelt into a graceful spin and took out a third. "Till all they're seeing now is."
"Red, red, red, red, red." The triple-swing combo of destruction left her out of breath and giddy.
"Vandal!" She heard in the distance she couldn't linger too long; the villains would surely be on their way. "Woah, oh, oh."
Just as Skyler ran out of the square, Hook led the villains into the plaza. "Villains at the ready, sir, yes, sir."
They searched the area for the criminal, causing all the mayhem they should have been causing. "Uliana's not very friendly, that's for sure."
Skyler slinked behind pillars, doing her best to avoid them. "It's criminal how you follow the sea."
"Fists in the air, boots on the ground." Skyler made her way to the back of the villains, blending in with them and mocking their movements in the shadows. "I hear the sound, and it's getting loud, yelling red, red, red."
