Last Spring Break

As Skyler sits at the fountain in the town square with Uliana, she looks around the small town with renewed light in her eye.

She watches as groups of kids walk around and couples have lunch. She sees a man playing guitar by the corner next to a lemonade stand. It's normal.

Uliana sits tensely beside her, sending her glares every now and then. But the girl relaxes when Hook and Morgie join them. "Fun fact: This town has the biggest ball of yarn in the country," Morgie says. "And nobody's seen anything strange."

"This isn't exactly a hotspot of activity," Skyler replies with her eyes still on the average people living average lives.

"Our hopes of finding anything are going up in smoke," Uliana huffs. Skyler narrows her eyes as a thought pops into her mind.

She jumps off the fountain and turns to face Uliana. "Are you passive-aggressively referring to that fire in my room last year?" Skyler responded.

"You mean the one that you set on purpose to sabotage our spring break trip? No, Skyler. Why would I talk about that?" Uliana sarcastically replied, angry.

"Dude, you've lost it," Skyler scoffs as she crosses her arms over her chest.

Frustrated, Morgie steps in, "You guys are talking about ancient history-ow!" Morgie slapped at his arm and they all looked at him. Slowly, he rolls his sweater up to reveal a large swollen mass on his arm. "Something stung me," Morgie groans.

When they all looked at Morgie's bite, all their faces were disgusted.

"Ew!" Skyler said while Uliana gasped.

"Gross." Was all Hook said.

"Do you guys hear that?" Skyler asks as her eyes leave Morgie and float to the sky. "It's like a
generator or something."

Uliana clenches her jaw. "I hear nothing."

The people around them run scared and fast. "I don't need to hear it," Hook says, placing a hand on Skyler's waist. "I can see it."
