Hot shot now had his new heart. Hot shot was wondering who gave him the heart. Hot shot was hoping to hear about the donor and give something to the family. Hot shot was very curious about what was going to happen now that he has his new heart.
Hot shot was hooked up to many machines in the CICU. These machines were checking his vitals and helping him breathe, get food and water, and to go to the bathroom. Hot shot was covered with tubes and wires at other times. Like from his previous heart surgeries.
Hot shot was also getting medicine from the tubes as well. Hot shot was soon having the tube taken out of his mouth so he could talk, drink and eat.
"Okay Hot shot I am going to remove the tube from your mouth," a nurse named Martha said. Then she removed the tube from Hot shot's mouth. Hot shot cough a little at first then began to breathe easily. "Here is some water," she said offering the water.
Hot shot began to drink the water. He felt it relieve the dryness he was feeling in his throat. It was so refreshing. Hot shot felt better after having a drink of water.
"How are you feeling poppet?" Quickshadow asked.
"Sore," Hot shot answered. "But it is easier to breathe," he said.
"Yes I bet it is," Quickshadow said.
"Would you like something to eat?" Martha asked.
"Not really," Hot shot answered.
"It would be a good idea to eat Hot shot," Quickshadow said.
"Okay," Hot shot said. Then Martha brought some food for Hot shot to have. Hot shot ate a few bites of the food. His mother was glad he managed some food.
Hot shot was still feeling pretty sick and tired. He wanted to rest right now. He was wondering when he was going to feel better. "I feel sick, tired and sore," Hot shot said.
"The doctors told us you might feel that way," Quickshadow said. "But it is normal," she said. "You felt that way when you came out of your previous heart surgeries," she said. "But you should soon start feeling better," she said.
The a nurse named Jenny came in the room. "Okay Hot shot time for medicine," Jenny said.
Hot shot saw there were a few medications with nurse Jenny. "That is a quite a few," Hot shot said.
"Yes there are eight medicines here," Jenny said. "One you take once a day, three you take twice a day, two you take three times a day and two you take four times a day," she said.
"Oh," Hot shot said. Hot shot thought that sounded like a lot. Hot shot wasn't too sure about it. But he was going to be ready to do what he needs to do. Hot shot watched as the nurse filled the syringes with medicine. Then put the end of a syringe in Hot shot's mouth and squirt it into his mouth. Hot shot swallowed it like he was suppose too.
"Good job," Jenny said. "Now time for the other ones," she said. Hot shot took the other medicines too.
"Yuck!" Hot shot said after swallowing the medicine. "Yucky stuff," he said.
"Yes the medicine taken for organ transplants can be pretty nasty." Jenny said. "But these will help take care of your new heart," she told him.
"Okay," Hot shot said. "Dr. Pokey said some of the medicine I have to take for the rest of my life," he said.
"That's right this medicine is for the rest of your life, it will help take care of your new heart," Jenny said. "It will keep your body from rejecting the new heart," she said. "There is also medicine will also keep you from getting sick," she said. "Each medication will help you," she told him.
"Okay," Hot shot said.
Hot shot was starting to feeling stronger and not as sick. Many of the tubes and wires had been removed. Hot shot felt his appetite coming back after a couple of more days. Hot shot was pretty hungry he was able to eat all his dinner and was still hungry. "I'm still hungry," Hot shot said looking at the food that was now gone. He saw the nurse. He was wondering if he could have some ice cream or frozen yogurt. "Can I have some ice cream or frozen yogurt?" he asked.
"I will see what I can do," the nurse said taking his dinner tray away. Hot shot watched the nurse leave and then come back into the room with a bowl of vanilla ice cream in scoops.
Hot shot was very happy. He started to eat the ice cream and ate all of it. "Looks like you are feeling much better," Dr. Pokey said seeing Hot shot finish up his bowl of ice cream. "You ate all of your dinner and had dessert too, you ate every bite of it," he said.
"It was very good," Hot shot said.
"I am glad to hear and see you are feeling much better." Dr. Pokey said.
"Yes I feel a lot better, still kind of sore but better," Hot shot said.
After a couple of more days Hot shot was being moved to the inpatient floor. Hot shot was looking forward to being there. Hot shot was getting himself settled in. Hot shot was making himself very comfortable. Hot shot saw there were many presents for him after his transplant. Hot shot was amazed that all of his loved ones were thinking of him. Hot shot was very happy and able to feel a little more free in the hospital and able to explore.
Hot shot was walking around the hospital and having a whole lot of fun. Hot shot saw there were many rooms filled with all kinds of things.
Hot shot was going to have to stay for Christmas. He wasn't too happy about having to spend Christmas in the hospital. But his parents told him they were going to be there with him on Christmas day to celebrate. That made Hot shot feel so much better. Hot shot was really looking forward to his parents staying with him during Christmas in the hospital.
