Winter exited the house first since Texas wanted to check out the rest of the place to see if it was exactly the same as he had remembered it. He was quite particular about a certain room that used to belong to someone else and spent a minute or so in there despite the tenseness of their situation. This place was unlike the cities of remnant, they were cramped in spaces restricted by the city walls so common folk only lived in apartments while the rich and wealthy lived in landed properties since they had the power and money to buy enough precious land.
Texas exited the building soon enough. He looked like he had been suppressing something. Whether it be coughs or emotions, she did not know.
"I don't like this place anymore. The objective seems to be down the road." His footsteps heavy, he steps down the patio and onto the sidewalk followed by Winter. The whole stretch of the suburb seemed to be eerily empty. Not a soul or trace was present. In fact , fog seemed to be forming in the neighbourhood obscuring vision. Then figures started to be seen, the outlines of men.
Texas fired the first shot, and the shadow falls face first dead, revealing it to be one of those typical Middle Eastern insurgents. The kind that's just sandals and AKM buried in the backyard since the Saddam era.
"Oh fuck..." The figures get close enough to reveal themselves as a amalgamation enemies Texas had fought over the years, from Tarkov to the Congo to the middle east.
"The simulation's truly fucking itself now..."
Winter could only stand and look clutching the rifle in her hands. What was even more unexpected was Texas just opening fire on the whole lot of them standing there for some overly dramatic purpose. Several fall down dead as both sides run for cover, the pair taking cover behind a parked car.
"Mother fucker don't use the doors as cover!" Texas scolded Winter even in the heat of the moment kicking her to the rear end of the car where the boot was because car doors weren't going to keep speeding bullets at bay.
Texas and Winter's both open fire from their cover positions, taking out a few enemies, but more keep on coming. The number of enemies also meant that the car they were taking cover with was getting pelted with bullets over and over again. The longer they stay the higher chances a bullet goes through and actually hits them.
"We have to move!" He ordered Winter getting ready the chainsaw bayonet.
"What??! That's suicide!" She protested.
"Do you want to stay here or not?! Just be alert and kill everything!" With reckless abandon, he vaults over the car and, like a rugby player, carges through a fence to stick his chainsaw bayonet into the first man he sees. Winter follows through the hole, helping to shoot enemies that Texas was too busy sawing up a man for.
Despite fighting on the move up the street more and more kept coming. Their quick motions kept them from being hit but they could not keep this up. Eventually a sedan full of scavs turned up speeding down the road. Winter used her semblance despite the unfamiliarity and created Glyphs underneath each seat before sending ice spikes up.
Little to stay other than they were dead by the time the car swerved and crashed into the front porch of a house.
"You can use your semblance? Why the fuck didn't you tell me until now?!" Under fire Texas runs over to the car to check on it seeing if the people inside were still alive.
"I-I just thought of it now...I didn't think I could use it without my sword..."
"Well at least you learnt something today. Cover me while I check the car!"
He looks through the window and confirms the men were dead by the looks that they had holes through their necks and chests. The stars have aligned too since the car was still running, the engine still churning along like the beast it was. Winter meanwhile was fighting for her life trying to hold back the horde of assorted enemies using whatever left of the front porch as cover. Slowly they were getting surrounded and if Texas did not get that car ready for their use quick they would be-
