Chapter 44: Curtain Call Volume 3

Ruby and Weiss ran down the main boulevard of Beacon Academy, their eyes twitching to their degree limits looking for their missing friends. Above Atlesian air forces engaged the griffon swarm surrounding the Nevermore that had killed professors Mulberry and Ann Greene in a ploy to buy time for the last 2 students still missing at great cost to their own lives. All around Ruby and Weiss would be the dead, legions of dead Atlesian military hardware and people, the once proud huntsmen academy now reduced to ruin. Ruby was driven by an infallable duty to make sure that anyone who she knew wouldn't be hurt or killed again after witnessing so much tragedy today.

First Penny being cut up, Yang losing her arm to Adam, Mulberry impaled, Ann Greene ripped apart, Ren and Nora both exhausted and bruised, Blake having her kidney kicked in also by Adam, no one she knew would be harmed again. As they stopped at the road, which led to the CCT tower, they found several people still alive in this mess moving towards them. Both girls readied their weapons, but it became clear who it actually was.

The 5 mercenaries had just begun making their way to the docks, running away from the CCT tower having made good distance between them and it when they met up with Ruby and Weiss. Both groups stopped upon meeting to question each other.

"What are you doing coming back here?! Leave! It's no longer safe!" Texas questioned, pointing his rifle down, to the ground.

"Pyrrha and Jaune are still missing!" Ruby cried out desperately.

"What? They were behind...us..." Floridaman swore as he looked behind to point to them, assuming that they were following behind except they weren't, and there was a severe lack of anything there.

"Shit..." Moron let out as all 5 of them looked behind at the path they had just taken.

Weiss' scroll began to buzz repeatedly in her pocket. Removing the scroll and expanding the screen out, she saw it was Jaune calling. Their missing friend! In an instant heartbeat, she answered his request to call her.

"Where are you!-" Weiss demanded as both her and Ruby were risking their lives right now looking for them.

"I thought he was behind us...?" Akula voiced.

There was panic in Jaune's voice. It sounded like he was getting out of something with his armour dinging against something metal as he stepped onto some sort of rubble or gravel.

"Weiss! You have to stop her!" He begged immediately.

"What?! Where are you?!" Weiss didn't have a clue what he was talking about, only caring about where he was since both him and Pyrrha usually stuck together.

"Don't worry about me!!!" Jaune shouted into the scroll microphone, making his voice peak due to the high volume and for Weiss to move her own scroll away from her head as everyone could hear what he was saying.

"You have to save Pyrrha, please..." Jaune returned his voice to a normal volume now, calming himself with his voice full of sadness and lament.

"We'll save her...okay...? Are you fine though...?" Weiss asks, but there was only sobbing from the other end.

"I'm...in...Vale...I'll be fine...please..." Jaune then tosses his scroll to the ground, ending the call by breaking it in an act of anger and sadness weeping on his knees safe and sound probably in the streets of Vale. The ground shakes again as a puddle of grimm spawning black ooze falls down near them. Several Beowolves start to arise from the liquid, but everyone's attention is on the wyvern flying through the sky, even taking out a Manta Gunship by running into it as if it was nothing beginning to circle the CCT tower. The very same CCT tower that Pyrrha was going to face Cinder on top of. Everyone's eyes were on the top as Ruby transformed Cresent Rose into its scythe form.
