Ch 23: Shadow Play

Madison's POV...

"Why? Why am I here?" I mumble to myself as I sit down next to MK and Mei, Tang invited us all to watch a play with shadows. Only MK didn't notice this, "I'm so excited! I haven't been to the movies in ages!" MK shouts, "Kid, this ain't a cinema." "It's a shadow play, with puppets?" Tang and Pigsy told me, "What? Puppets? No! I thought we were seeing Kung Fu Monkey Cop The Movie!" MK shows them the poster, "MK, look at the back." I tell him.

He puts the poster down, and I just noticed the Mayor there, "Hey Maddie, Mei. Isn't that the guy who gave us that weird key?" "The skeleton one that could open anything? He sure is." I say, "I'm pretty sure that he's still not actually the Mayor." He notices us and waves, I wave back. "Eww. That's not creepy at all." Tang said.

"Point is, whatever we're watching, you guys earned a break." Pigsy said to us, "You guys have been training super hard. I can't even remember the last time we all just hung out together. I miss this." The things I do, wouldn't be training to get stronger, even since that dream where I heard about that woman. I've been trying to find more information about her.

"So was Sandy just busy or-" I hear Tang mumble, "What are you talking about? We hand out all the time!" MK said, "No we don't." I say to him, "It's always 'Monkey King and Skeleton' this or 'Mystery' that with you guys lately." I chuckle nervously, and MK starts to explain but Tang cuts him off, "Just yesterday, you guys blew off checkers night 'cause you two had to "study." Study what, I might ask?"

I dodge the checker he threw at us, "Why do you have those?" I ask him, "All right, all right! I get it. It's just, Monkey King said..." MK freezes, "I just...I need to be ready." I raise an eyebrow, "Ready for what?" The lights dim, "Shh! It's starting!" Tang told us, "Tang, would you-" He shushes Pigsy again. Suddenly a puppet falls down and looks at us with a creepy grin, "Whoa." I said amazed, "Uh, Tang, what kinda play did you say this was?" Pigsy asked.

The curtains opened showing the puppeteer who had a robe that covered his face, I grab my head and wince, why did this feel so familiar? "Welcome, viewers, to a shadow play the likes of which have never be seen. It follows the tragic talk of a legendary Warrior and how those who bring light into this world inevitably bring darkness to those they hold dear."

"Guys, I just realized something." I turn to MK, "What?" Me and Mei both say, "I-I...I don't have any snacks!" I facepalmed myself, "We literally just ate not so long ago." I tell him, "Must get snacks!" He said again and Pigsy gave in, "Ugh, fine, go grab some snacks." MK immediately dashes out, "And don't forget to get some-" Pigsy shushed Tang and I turn my attention back to the puppeteer.

"Like light, heroes bring warmth, hope and friendship. But they also give life in the darkness." The lateen glowed brightly as the puppeteer talks, I cover my eyes and soon open them once the light dimmed down. I notice no one else was there. "What the?" I mumble and the door opens revealing MK holding tons of snacks, "Sorry, sorry. Where's that step?" He was about to fall until I teleport him over to me, "Here's that drink you asked for, Mei." MK hands Mei her drink and I grab it.

"MK?" I ask him and he pops out of the snack pile, "Maddie? Where are the others?" He asked and I shrug, "The Hero and the Warrior were like the sun and the moon." I turn my attention back to the puppeteer.

The puppeteer showed the hero and the warrior facing off against a dragon, next it shows the hero holding a peach and later changed into an eagle. Then, the next scene shows the hero and the warrior with multiple clones, one of them punched the ground creating an impact of debris.

"Their light a protective glow shining upon the world. Together, there was nothing that could stop the two of them either in the Celestial Realms or on Earth. As time went on, the Hero attained power beyond comprehension. As the Hero's light grew so too did his shadow. And soon, the Warrior was cast in that shadow. In the darkness....the only person who stayed by the Warrior's side was a goddess's child. But the Warrior was forgotten by the Hero."
