Maddie's POV
As soon as Billy left my room, I quickly shut the door and stood in front of the mirror. Damn. Even with my eyes half-closed from still being half-asleep, I could clearly see that my cheeks were still quite flushed because of the damned dream I had just had. With him. I just hoped I hadn't said his name out loud while he was there, or I'd be terribly screwed, torturing myself forever over it. More damn it.
"Madeleine! You have 15 minutes or you're walking!" Billy's shouts from the end of the hallway reached my room, snapping me back to reality.
"Yeah, I'm coming!" I replied, opening the door, but Billy didn't respond. I didn't see him either, he must have already been outside. I was surprised to be met with silence instead of one of his absurd comebacks or his threatening glare. I chose not to insist on knowing where he was, since it seemed that morning could be somewhat peaceful, so it was best to take advantage before he snapped. Before going to the bathroom, I changed my underwear and quickly dressed in a black long-sleeved sheer top and high-waisted jeans, not without first adorning my neck and fingers with silver jewelry.
Once ready, I went to the bathroom to splash some water on my face, put on some makeup, and fix my hair a bit. As I was adjusting my hair and waking up more, flashes of images flooded my mind, making my eyes widen. At that moment, I realized why Billy had left my room without a word: he was hiding a massive erection behind the pillow. I couldn't help it, and remembering the image, I started giggling. I couldn't believe that my dear stepbrother, the so-selective Billy Hargrove, that blue-eyed blonde who hated me so much, had gotten aroused watching me dream. The situation was so utterly ridiculous that I couldn't stop laughing.
"What the hell are you doing, Maddie?" Billy's voice startled me. "Apart from wasting time, no matter how much you insist, even if you dress up a monkey in silk, it's still a monkey..." he said mockingly.
"N-Nothing..." I instantly covered my mouth to hide my laughter.
"Are you laughing to yourself?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning one shoulder against the doorframe. "I really thought that day would come much later. But it will be a pleasure to commit you to a psychiatric hospital and finally get rid of you." he said with an ironic smile.
"Yeah, sure..." I whispered, calming the racing heartbeat caused by my internal laughter.
"What did you say? You know we both want to get rid of each other, better if you disappear first." he replied angrily, but as soon as I looked into his eyes, I could see a hint of unease. This confirmed that my vision from this morning was real. "Hurry up." he quickly changed the subject but kept his distance.
"I just need to get my backpack and grab the coffee to go." I bit my lower lip as another smile threatened to escape, seeing that, for once, Billy was showing some weakness. "I'm coming." I approached him to push him aside so he would let me out of the bathroom.
"You have five minutes, not a second more. Otherwise, you're going by bike." he muttered, walking ahead of me down the hallway without even looking at me.
"If you stop getting in my way, maybe I'll hurry up." I murmured, already a bit annoyed. It was clear that the calm wasn't going to last long, he was starting to be himself again.
Billy didn't respond, just let out some kind of grunt before pulling out his pack of cigarettes and heading outside. On the way to my room to grab my backpack, I saw that Max's was empty, so she was probably already outside. I didn't like leaving Max alone with Billy for too long, so I didn't waste any more time. I grabbed my backpack and quickly went to get my coffee, then headed out towards the car where my two siblings were already waiting for me.
