I awake to the sound of fighting outside. My door was suddenly pushed open and a newborn rushed inside and began to release me from my restraints. He slug me over his shoulder despite my muffled protests. He was about to run when he froze. I wiggled around until I could have a clear view of what made the newborn pause. There, in the doorway stood 4 vampires. The newborn does not hesitate to throw me into the wall and attempt to fight them. He almost immediately is headless and thrown into a fire that the newcomer have suddenly created. The only female glanced over at me. She looked disgusted.
"Alec," she said, distaste clear in her voice. I had just managed to shake off the gag and was about to summon my shadows when a black mist enveloped me and everything went black. It was almost as though I was trapped in my thoughts. I don't know how long I stayed like this, but I soon became aware of a warm sensation. I opened my eyes, shocked to see flames around me, I was in a fire. I knew fire could not burn me because it was mine and I controlled it. I was more confused on how I got there in the first place. I decided that I must have been knocked out and then the vamps that killed the newborns decided to burn me alive, jokes on them. Not only does fire not kill me, it actually makes me stronger. I was glad to find I was no longer bound by chains, I got up stretched, then bolted out the door. I had a gut feeling that Riley did not get killed. They would be looking for me. I did, however, hope Fred and Bree made it out okay. Wait what? Ew, I hope all vampires die. I ran for hours, trying to get as far as possible. After running for what felt like five hours straight with no sign of anyone pursuing, I stopped for a brief rest against a tree. Almost immediately a hand clasped around my throat and I was staring into the ruby eyes of three newborns. Wonderful.
"Found you." the man holding my throat sang. He picked me up and dashed off with me in tow. I fought his iron grip without making any success towards freedom. He shoved me in the back of a car and the driver took off. After several long hours of brainstorming I finally thought of a plan. The three newborns were all male, I would use that to my advantage.
"I have to pee." I whined
"Okay." the newborn drawled in a tone that clearly conveyed he was unsure as to why that information was given to him.
"Now." I stated.
"No."
"It's you with the strong noses." I pointed out. About 5 minutes later we were at a gas station.
"Make it fast." the newborn growled at me
"Will do." I said raising two fingers in a mock salute. I walked into the gas station quickly. Once inside I slowed my pace, and wrung my hands. I kept throwing glances over my shoulder, eventually catching the notice of the store clerk.
"Is everything okay, miss?" he asked me.
"I don't know those people, but I woke up in the back of their car." I said letting a little panic leak into my voice.
"What is your name?" he asked me.
"Myla." I replied automatically, then realized my mistake. Victoria threatened my father if he found out where I was. I knew I was close to my home which would make the Forks police the ones to respond. With my dad as the chief, once he heard my name he would be here in an instant. "I told them I was using the bathroom." I said walking in that direction. I was barely in there before I heard the sirens, then three sets of feet running faster than humanly possible. The door was just about taken off the hinges as the three newborns burst in. I smirked at them, raising my hand to hold them in place with the air. Then I said in a tone that conveyed all the smugness I felt,
"Shadows appear." Instantly there were three shadows in front of me. "Offense." I said, then released my hold on the newborns. My shadows immediately went to work hacking up the newborns.
"How does it feel to be beaten by a fifteen year old human girl?" I sang tauntingly. I raised my hand again and fire caught to the dismembered bodies of the newborns. I heard the police enter the building and decided it was time to go. I broke the window and jumped out, sprinting into the woods.
I knew that the newborns would not be alone. I heard the faint sound of pursuit behind me and racked my brain. I remember hearing that dogs could not track through water. Maybe it was the same with vampires. I called on my water power and let it swirl around my legs, washing away my scent. It will not hide me forever, just hopefully buy me some time. I know I can not out run them, nor can I even hope to beat them at any physical combat, I must outsmart them. That wouldn't be hard. If I had leaned anything about newborns, it was that they were quite stupid. I was pushing myself into the fastest sprint I could manage without falling over. I could not keep my water deodorant forever. I would vomit blood and pass out, not exactly an ideal response in this situation. I was contemplating releasing it when an iron strong hand clamped onto the back for my shirt. It yanked me back and turned me around so I was facing the 3 vampires that tried to kill me in the fire. Shoot. The one that grabbed me went to go secure my arms behind me. I let the fire wash over my arms, making them burst into flames and the vampire recoil in surprise. Almost immediately I fell to my knees, a searing pain through my body. I wanted to scream and writhe in pain, but instead I held myself perfectly still and locked my lips. The only girl, a small blonde, was smirking at me, when I did not react her face twisted into a snarl and the pain intensified. Obviously she was causing it. The boy next to her touched her arm. They looked to be of similar age and heritage. He spoke quietly to her.
"Jane, Aro might want her." She turned to look at him and the pain disappeared, though now my arms were held behind my back. I studied them quietly, examining their eyes. They were a deep shade of burgundy, these were no newborns. I knew them, not personally, but in some dumb grape viney way. I just couldn't get my stupid, tired, muddled brain to cooperate. A taller, seemingly older one, stepped forward and spoke with a smirk.
"Clever trick with the water, but you can't hide from the world's best tracker." In those simple words I remembered. Alice coming back when she thought Bella died, Edward going to kill himself when he thought she was dead. Alice dragging Bella and I to Italy. Me being forced to stand outside the city and wait in hopes of avoiding some terrible fate. The Volturi, these vampires were the Volturi. Great, now I have two covens out for me. One considerably more deadly than the other, at least in theory.
"You should be dead." the one called Jane said flatly.
"So should you." I pointed out. She glared at me and the pain returned.
"Think twice before you say something human." she hissed, then the pain was gone. I glared at her. A slight breeze blew behind me and I saw the boy next to Jane stiffen. She turned and looked at him.
"Il mio cantante." he whispered. Jane sighed.
"Of course." she muttered rolling her blood red eyes. "Go contact Aro." The boy sped off into the trees. "Felix let her go, she's not going anywhere." The arms holding mine behind my back vanished and another vampire I presumed to be Felix appeared next to Jane. Darkness was starting to fall, the perfect time to make my escape. I had it all planned out.
"Shadows appear." I murmured, I saw them come before me. "Offensive defense." I told them, then I turned and ran. I cloaked myself in the darkness using my power to make me almost invisible. I had no intention of stopping soon. I knew my shadows would not let them come after me, but that would not stop the tracker from tracking me later. Although I wasn't worried about them currently, I was slightly concerned about the newborns sure to be on my tail. I don't know if I was strong enough to fight them again. But I would sure as heck try.
