Chapter Two: Apparently I Should Give Up Trying to be a Decent Human

I ran all night thinking over the things I heard while I was prisoner. I thought of something suddenly. I remembered the purpose of the newborn army, to destroy the yellow eyes, aka the Cullens. Bella was mated with one, and  I was Bella's sister. It makes sense now, they were trying to use me to try to lure the Cullens to their deaths. Tried and failed, no one came for me. I would love to leave them to defend themselves and see how they fare, just as they did to me. But I loved Bella, them getting hurt would hurt her, and she did not do well when they left, I did not want to know her reaction to their deaths. I redirected my running toward the direction I presumed Forks was in. Soon enough I saw the familiar landscape of the little town. I had only been to the Cullens home a few times, but I remembered the way. After another 20 minutes of running I was on the Cullens front porch. I knocked harder than required then waited. The door opened to reveal Carlisle, who glanced around, confused. I remembered that I was still cloaked in darkness and quickly let it down. He started when I seemingly materialized on his porch. Vampires aren't used to not seeing things. He peered closely at me.

"Myla?" he asked with disbelief clear in his voice.

"Yup." I said. "Now I would really rather not tell you this, seeming as no one helped me, but I love my sister and she loves you guys. I am only going to say this once, so you better listen up."

"Why don't you come inside first." He said.

"Who's there?" I asked warily, I did not want to drag Bella into this situation.

"Just my family." He responds, a little confused. I didn't feel like explaining.

"Okay." He ushered me to the living room and I plopped down on the couch. He called to his ragtag volunteer family and they file in, they appear to be shocked to see me on their couch.

"Myla?" Alice asks, disbelief clear in her voice. I give her a tight smile and a single wave.. "You look awful."

"Sorry, been kidnapped by vampires for like three months, then running. And guess what? You guys don't sleep so neither do I!" I said with false enthusiasm.

"What are you doing here?" Rosalie asks, not exactly in a friendly way.

"Saving your skins. Now if you want help I suggest you stop talking and let me explain, I have like twenty minutes tops." I said.

"Let me go get Bella." Edward says and begins to walk out of the room. I raise my hand and the air obeys, holding him in place.

"No." I said, he whirls around to face me.

"She's been so worried!" He protested.

"I'm not dragging her into my mess." I growled, then addressed the whole family, "If any of you mention that I was here I swear heads will roll." I threaten. They seem taken aback that they just received a death threat from a fifteen year old girl. The last time they saw me I could barely stand to meet their eyes, no matter how hard I tried to intimidate them. They used to creep me out. The thought is laughable to me now, I have seen far worse. Now they saw me meet each of their eyes with a glare that made them flinch. It did not affect Emmett though.

"Ha! I'd like to see you try." he laughed. I switched my glare to him. My unwavering blue eyes meet his golden ones.

"What makes you think that I can't?" I asked him, his smile faltered, then returned.

"You're a human." He stated.

"Well, I am a human that has single handedly killed three newborn vampires at once and managed to escape the Volturi. Trust me, you won't be a problem." I said, my voice as cold as ice. His smile disappeared. "Now that that's cleared up let's get back to the topic at hand shall we." I said cheerily.

"Hold on, the Volturi?" Carlisle asked, astonished.

"That's what I said. Now, the longer I sit here the closer the army and Volturi get, both of whom seem obsessed with capturing me.

"What army?" Carlisle asked.

"The one that's been sent to kill you." I replied with slightly manic glee in my voice.

I told them the story of Victoria and her newborn army. While I was talking Esme brought me some food, for which I was very grateful. After I finished telling them, and eating, I left. Now I was running again, I did not know how long I could keep this up. I hoped that the newborns would leave me alone now, but I still had the small problem of the vampire police force that probably would not take so kindly to me fighting and escaping them. Vampires had fragile egos. While I was pondering this I tripped over a root. I heard a faint noise behind me and turned to face six newborns. They literally just wait for me to stop moving than attack. It was really quite dumb. No, it was cat and mouse. This one would be difficult, but fun.

"I hate vampires." I muttered. They formed a circle around me trapping me, I did not take well to this. With a groan I opened a chasm behind some of them, the newborns hearing the groan of the earth and knowing what I could do backed up, wary of my gift. They stepped right into my hole. I closed it again and the earth swallowed three of the six newborns. I liked those odds better.

"Shadows appear." I commanded, "Offense." Now the three remaining newborns were locked in combat with my shadows while I sat back and watched. My shadows could do quite a bit of damage. They beheaded two, which I set fire to. The remaining one turned around and ran, not eager to meet the same fate as the others.

"Should we pursue, master Myla?" One of the shadows asked.

"No. Thank you." I said, I always tended to thank them. Why? I don't know. I'm telling you I am going soft. Maybe I am just more apprehensive seeming as I have been staring down death for the past year or so.  They bowed and disappeared into the ground. Sighing I set off at a run,  again. I ran all night, I was exhausted. I felt like I was going to die. I wanted to die. Apparently I was just too dang stubborn to do it. The only time I stopped was to vomit blood in a convenient bush from overuse of my gifts. Then I was running yet again. Joy. I was sad to see the darkness go as morning came. The extra shadow it helped keep up my energy, I could draw some energy from it, even though it was not as good as sleeping. I could hide better in the dark, although it would do little against the sharp eyes of a vampire. The darkness was comforting in a way, although you would think it would be the opposite because my pursuers could see fine in the dark, and I can't. I never claimed to be rational. It was late morning when I began to worry about the one vampire who got away, he could definitely call in reinforcements. I scoffed at that, a mighty newborn vampire has to call for help with catching a young human. It pleased me in an odd way knowing I was strong enough to defeat vampires at their strongest state, even when I was outnumbered. Still, this was no time to get cocky and not check up on my surroundings. I stopped and caught my breath.

"Shadows app...." I never finished because someone grabbed me from behind and clamped their hand over my mouth.

"Let's have none of that shall we." A smooth voice said next to my ear. And with that he pushed a nerve on the back of my neck, causing  me pass out cold in his arms.
