Clarissa's POV
In surgery there is a red line on the floor that marks the point where the hospital goes from being accessible to being off limits to all but a special few. Crossing the line, unauthorized is not tolerated. In general, lines are there for a reason. For safety. For security. For clarity. There's a large group of nurses protesting having formed a picket line in front of the hospital. They are chanting 'Fair hours, fair wages!' They're also holding various signs while protesting and I could see George looking in fear.
"Can't. Can't, can't cross the picket line. I can't." George tells me.
"I do not like it either George, but what choice to we have? Okay we took an oath to heal."
"Dad's a truck driver. Mom's a teacher. The evening news shows me crossing the picket line... they'll outlive me just to pee on my grave." George explains and I instantly understand why he's hesitant of going into the building.
"I understand." Cristina and Mommy both walk over to us and look on at the protesters
"Has there been any blood yet? I bet they brought in scab nurses." Cristina says when Izzie walks over to us.
"I think the nurses know that we are on their side." Izzie says, causing us to look at her.
"Don't cross the line!" The nurses shout at us.
"Don't they?" Izzie asks, taken aback by the shouting.
"Well we're doctors. We have sick patients inside. We have surgeries." Cristina says as she heads through the line and has food thrown at her. My eyes widened in horror afraid that they're going to do that to me.
