"Brooke I've never seen you so nervous" Tessa looked down flicking her eyes over the scattering paper work on the kitchen counter. "I never did anything like that before...It's just that...Matt, he's ...you know." Brooke stuttered, her voice trialed off as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt.
Tessa raised an eyebrow, leaning against the kitchen island. "I know what?" Brooke took a deep breath and let it out in a huff "Matt is just so... I don't know. Every night it's just dinner, TV, and bed. No surprises or anything like that." She sighed as her eyes drifted to a photo of them from their graduation, both smiling, but that happiness seemed forced now. "I found someone else..." she paused "someone who is better." Tessa's eyes widened, and she leaned in closer "someone else? Brooke...cheating isn't right.." Brooke looked away with guilt "it is wrong but I don't see why it matters.." Brooke became more animated when speaking and her words grew as she described her new love interest "the guy I'm seeing.. he's into arts like me..he's adventurous.. and looks at me like he sees nothing else." Tessa's expression softened, and spoke softly "what do you mean..?" Brooke towards her sister "Matt is like... a comfortable pair of slippers...reliable.. safe..but.." she paused searching for the right words, "but they are not the kinda shoes you'd wear to gala.." Tessa took in what Brooke was saying and her understanding slowly sinked in, "what you're telling me is that.. you'll trade those comfortable slippers for a pair of stilettos..?" Brooke nodded, a sad smile played on her face "I just wanna feel loved Tessa..With Matt it feels like everything is reused..With the guy i'm seeing he makes me feel loved" she said and her voice dropped to a whisper.
"have you tried communicating with Matt??..this is wrong Brooke.." Brooke's eyes flashed a mix of sadness and guilt "I know Tess. Believe me everything I did was wrong but It feels like I'm continuing to play this role I can't act out anymore." Tessa took her hand "this may be your husband.. he may be the person you spend your life with and you're trading it for something so temporary. You remember what Mom used to say? What would she say if she was still here?..." Brooke's shoulders slumped in shame "What if that doesn't matter anymore.. and he doesn't want to be with me? He probably wouldn't care if I leave. He couldn't care less" Her tears poured out of her eyes she felt guilt and sadness over something that didn't happen, Matt leaving her.
"No Brooke love... is staying with the person who holds you.. I rather be wear those comfortable slippers than walk around in stilettos and be tired every single minute" Brooke's eyes softened realizing how much she thought she had it figured out not thinking about it that way "Love is like an analogy Brooke.. not literal but it pops up in every thing you see. You need two pairs of socks to keep your feet warm, you need a flower and bee to make honey, you need a cup to make coffee and you need love to trust someone with your heart."Just then, the sound of the door opening and closing echoed through the house, Matt's footsteps grew louder as he approached the kitchen. Brooke wiped away tears that continued to form. She knew she had to change the subject.
"Hey Honey" she called out, her voice a little too cheerful as she turned to face him "you're home early" Matt's smile was warm, but there was a hint of fatigue in his eyes "Yeah, had quite a day in the studio today. People were being really.. rude." He walked over to her and planted a kiss on her forehead "how was your day baby..what's wrong?" He looked at her noticing her red eyes. She wiped her eye "oh my eyes are itchy.. allergies" Her secret weighed on her conscious making her feel heavy "oh well everything okay baby?" Brooke raced as she forced a smile "yeah..you want a water?" She pointed at the fridge "yeah thank you baby." He said while his smile lightened up softly. Tessa took the cue to pick up the conversation, filling the air with the talk of her promotion and the office drama that came with it. Brooke listened with half an ear, her mind racing as she opened the fridge and grabbed a water for Matt. She felt his eyes on her, and she knew he could sense something was off. As she handed him the drink, their fingers brushed, and she felt a tremor of anxiety run through her. Was she suspicious? Did he know?
Matt took a sip, never taking his eyes off of her and she thought she saw a flicker of curiosity in his gaze. "You sure everything is okay?" He asked in low voice. "Mhm"

-matt-"Mhm" she continued to lie to me, i knew something was bothering her and it started to bother me not knowing what she felt made me feel like I'm not good enough for her. My career was full of busy hours causing me to not have time for Brooke so I'm used to asking her what is wrong and she would tell me but this time she lied to me..? "You wanna go upstairs Brooke? We need to talk sweetie" I look at her and saw her still wiping at her eyes as if she was gonna cry. I grab her hand gently guiding her upstairs, just as we step into the bedroom she breaks into tears. "Hey..Brooke" I put my arm around her shoulder as she cried in my arms "baby..I need to tell you something.." she looked at me with a hint of guilt written on her face "I've been seeing someone else..and I was saying things about you behind your back and..I'm sorry." She gradually huffed between every word but I understood enough to comprehend "Brooke..what do you mean you're seeing someone else?" She looked at me with a knowing look. I look down at the floor "i'm sorry Matt." She cried in an way that I hadn't seen before "why did you do it Brooke.." I resurfaced my attention back to her "I just wanted to be loved.." i nodded "baby.. I know I haven't been making time for you but you can always talk to me Brooke." She looks at me with hurt in her eyes "Can we please talk about it Matt? I didn't mean the things I said" I look at her with a confused written expression.
As she highlights what she said my mind goes blank, I had to let this go. "Brooke.. talked about me, cheated and still have the nerve to try apologizing to me..?" She stops her explanation "I know Matt." I look away from her "go. Get out. Tessa can get out too." She shakes her head "no no Matt I'm sorry.. please?" She begged but I didn't budge.
I made a mistake... I miss Aliza.
