Neatly dressed in a champagne-colored three-piece suit, his brown hair sleeked back and away from his face revealing the harsh lines of his face and that out-thrust jaw. Four to five balloons with the inscription 'get well soon' held together with the flowers.
Paige's mouth dropped open as she recalled she had told him she couldn't make it to the office because she was sick. Was that why he was here? Because he thought she was sick?" He must have bought those balloons off the street on impulse. It didn't seem his style.
"Are you going to let me in?" His mouth curved to the side with a gentle smile. His voice, low and thick with his accent.
"Ah... yes," Paige blushed and stepped away from the door. Forgetting Finn was inside her apartment.
It wasn't until Leo paused a little farther from the living room with a haunted expression on his face that Paige realized what she had done. She hurried over to Leo immediately, and he turned his head to her.
Disbelief on his face. Which was immediately masked. And with a light voice that betrayed no emotion, he said, "I hadn't realized you had company. How thoughtless of me to barge in without asking if you were free."
It was at that moment that Finn noticed Leo, and he stood up so he could easily be seen.
"Here, take this." Leo thrust the balloons and flowers into her hand and turned towards the door.
Paige was at a loss. She quickly dropped the items on a nearby cushion and chased after him, catching his arm before he reached the front door. He turned, but only part of his body towards her, and the look she saw in his eyes chilled her. Causing Paige to drop her hand. His eyes were saying without words; yes, go on, what can you tell me.
"Yyou you remember Finn right?" His face showed no recollection of remembrance. Which scared Paige. Making her palm to sweat. Paige tried again. "The friend of mine you met at the office parking lot.
"Friend of yours?" This time his head turned in Finn's direction, who, to Paige's mortification, was smirking at Leo with a challenging expression in his eyes. Paige wanted to go over there and wipe that smirk from his face.
"So he is your friend," Leo muttered in a peculiar voice, still looking at Finn, but now his expression had tightened to match that of Finn's and an unspoken word passed through the two men which, to Paige's bewilderment, she couldn't understand.
He looked down at her. At Paige's tense face. "Then why do you have him at your house all the time?" His face mirrored the confusion he must be feeling.
Those furrowed brows and darting eyes which compelled Paige's gaze.
"I beg to disagree," Paige muttered. "I can count how many times Finn has been to my apartment with my two hands." She raised her hands showcasing her fingers, "And they will still be some fingers left."
"You don't have to sell me out to the public like that, Paige," Finn rasped out, sounding slightly annoyed.
"Sell you out to the public? I haven't said anything that isn't true."
Leo smiled then and gently grabbed her wrist, taking her outside. Paige smiled back, but just as they were about to leave, she saw Finn frowning hard.
Once outside, Leo let go of Paige's hand. His eyes never leaving her face. His smile was warm and gentle, which released the tension in Paige.
"How do you feel?" He murmured and felt her forehead with the back of his hand. "Should i call you a doctor?"
Paige had been about to ask him why he would call a doctor, when she remembered the balloon with the get-well-soon inscription in the living room. Her boss was here because he thought she was sick. Paige wasn't sick. She had only called in sick because she wanted to see a doctor concerning her pregnancy and then take the rest of the day off and rest.
