CHAPTER 5

TV

"I don't wanna talk right now
I just wanna watch TV
I'll stay in the pool and drown
So I don't have to watch you leave"

Renee groaned as her phone vibrated relentlessly on her nightstand, its screen lighting up with a barrage of incoming calls and messages. She squinted at the bright display, seeing her manager's name flash repeatedly. With a sigh, she reached over and answered, her voice still thick with sleep.

"Hello?"

"Renee! Finally, you pick up," her manager, Claire, scolded lightly. "I've been trying to reach you for ages. Why aren't you answering your phone?"

Renee rubbed her eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. "Sorry, Claire. I had a bit too much to drink last night. What's up?"

Claire's tone shifted from frustration to excitement. "I've got some incredible news for you. Greta Gerwig wants you to write a song for the latest Barbie movie!"

Renee sat up abruptly, the excitement piercing through her hangover fog. "Are you serious? Greta Gerwig? The Barbie movie?"

"Yes! She heard 'I Miss You I'm Sorry' and loved it. She thinks your style would be perfect for the film. This is huge, Renee!"

Renee's heart raced with excitement, a smile spreading across her face. "Oh my God, Claire, that's amazing! What do I need to do?"

"Just get yourself ready. You'll need to fly out to LA tomorrow to meet with the team and get some ideas for the song. The jet is booked for 3 PM."

Renee nodded, already feeling the buzz of adrenaline. "Got it. Thanks, Claire."

"You're welcome. And please, keep your phone on you," Claire added with a chuckle.

After hanging up, Renee took a deep breath, trying to process the thrilling news. Despite her pounding headache, the prospect of working on a Barbie movie filled her with energy. She decided to take it easy for the morning, knowing she needed to recover from last night's excess.
